Fuse Box Replacement
Old rewireable fuse boxes and worn consumer units swapped for metal 18th Edition boards. Fitted, tested and certified in a single day.

Old rewireable fuse boxes and tired consumer units replaced with safe, surge protected 18th Edition boards in homes from Chichester to Rye. Fitted in a day, tested on every circuit and certified under Part P, by a specialist team that does nothing else.
Every town, village and hamlet in the county has its own page: the homes we find there, the postcodes, how we get to you and answers to the questions people there actually ask. Type your town or village, or open a council area below. Same team, same fixed prices, wherever you are.
Not listed? We very likely still cover you. Call or text 0333 360 8691 with your postcode.
Every job we take on starts and ends at the fuse box. Fuse box, consumer unit, same thing: we replace them all, and it shows in the finish, the testing and the paperwork.
Old rewireable fuse boxes and worn consumer units swapped for metal 18th Edition boards. Fitted, tested and certified in a single day.
One protective device per circuit, so a fault on the shower never drops the freezer. The board we recommend for most homes here.
Arc fault detection devices spot damaged cables arcing behind walls and cut the power before a fire can start. Ideal for older terraces and cottages.
Type 2 surge protection devices fitted in your consumer unit to shield heat pumps, EV chargers, boilers and electronics from voltage spikes.
Boards moved out of damp cellars, coat cupboards and bedrooms to somewhere safe, dry and reachable. Common in converted flats and period houses.
Upgrades that clear C1 and C2 defects from your EICR and keep local rental properties compliant with the Electrical Safety Standards.
Electrical Installation Condition Reports for local homes, landlords and buyers. From £175 standalone, or £99 alongside any board upgrade.
Fixed prices by board type and number of ways, published openly. Dual RCD boards from £425, full RCBO boards from £625, AFDDs from £1,095.
Text us a photo of your fuse box and postcode and we will price the job the same day. No call out fee, no obligation, no hard sell.

We have replaced fuse boxes in thousands of homes, from Regency conversions on the Brighton seafront and flint cottages under the Downs to 1930s semis in Worthing and Wealden farmhouses near Heathfield. Rewireable fuses, tired plastic consumer units and boards that trip every time it rains all come off the wall, and a modern metal board goes on in their place.
Every job is carried out by our own Part P registered installers, never subcontractors, with a fixed price agreed before we start and a free survey or photo quote first. With every board change we test and inspect the entire property, not just the new board.

An old board is the most common reason a rental fails its Electrical Installation Condition Report. We fix it fast: RCBO and AFDD boards that remove C1 and C2 codes and keep your property compliant with the Electrical Safety Standards.
We work for landlords and agents right across the county: student HMOs in Brighton and Chichester, holiday lets on the coast and commuter flats in Crawley and Haywards Heath, with keys collected, tenants kept informed and certificates sent straight to the agent.

A fuse box is not one size fits all. We specify the right protection for the way you live: RCBOs so a fault on the shower never drops the freezer, arc fault detection for period terraces and HMOs, and surge protection for heat pumps, EV chargers and home electronics.
Boards stuck in damp cellars, coat cupboards or bedrooms can be moved somewhere safe and reachable at the same visit.
JP Fusebox Replacements was started in 2009 by a Brighton & Hove electrician who kept seeing the same thing on call-outs across the city: beautiful Victorian and Edwardian homes in Hanover, Kemptown and Seven Dials still running on rewireable fuse boxes that belonged in a museum. As word spread along the coast and up into the Weald, the work followed, and today our installers cover towns right across East and West Sussex. Seventeen years on, replacing fuse boxes is still all we do.
That focus matters. A general electrician might change a handful of consumer units a year. Our installers change them every working day, more than 2,400 boards so far, from seafront conversions and student houses to new town semis and listed cottages. We have seen every board, every backbox bodge and every surprise a Sussex wall can hide, which is why we can quote fixed prices and finish in a day.
We are Part P registered, qualified to the 18th Edition of BS 7671 including Amendment 2, and every installer on the team holds a Level 3 inspection and testing qualification. Small enough to care, experienced enough that nothing surprises us. People tell us they wanted a local fusebox electrician they could call back next year, not a lead generation website, and that is exactly what we are.
A fuse box is the one thing standing between your family and an electrical fire or fatal shock. We treat that responsibility the same way on every job, and we put our working rules in writing.
A dead fuse box, a burning smell or a board that will not reset is never a wait-until-Monday problem. In Brighton & Hove an installer can usually be at your door within 45 to 90 minutes for a genuine emergency, and everywhere else in Sussex we aim to reach you the same day, seven days a week.
For planned upgrades we keep it just as tight: quotes back the same day from a photo of your board, an installation slot within the week, and an arrival window we actually keep. You will get a text when we are on our way.
Most fuse box replacements take four to six hours from knock to handshake. Bigger boards and older wiring can stretch to a full day, and we will tell you which yours is before we book it. Here is how the day runs.
Dust sheets down, supply isolated and proved dead, then the old fuse box comes off the wall. We photograph and identify every circuit before a single wire moves.
The new metal consumer unit goes up, meter tails are renewed, and every circuit is terminated onto its own RCBO with torque checked connections and clear labelling.
Continuity, insulation resistance, polarity, earth fault loop impedance and RCD trip times, measured and recorded for each circuit. Nothing is energised on trust.
Power back on, circuit chart fitted, and a proper walk through so you know what every switch does. Your certificate follows by email and Building Control is notified.
Text a photo of your current fuse box to 0333 360 8691 and we will tell you, with a fixed price, today.
Half our callers ask for a fusebox upgrade, others want a consumer unit change, and surveyors simply write replace fuseboard on homebuyer reports. It is all the same piece of work. Fuse box is the everyday name, usually meaning the old rewireable type. Fuseboard and fuse board are trade habit. Consumer unit is what the regulations call the modern metal version that replaces them all.
Whichever words you use, the work is identical: we isolate the supply, remove the old unit, fit a new metal board with the right protective devices, test every circuit and certify the lot. A consumer unit upgrade to RCBOs and a fuseboard change forced by a failed EICR follow exactly the same steps and carry the same guide prices.
So if you have been quoted wildly different figures to replace a fuse box, replace a consumer unit or carry out a fuseboard upgrade, compare like with like. Our prices always include a Type 2 surge protection device, full testing, an Electrical Installation Certificate and Part P notification to Building Control.
Homes are our bread and butter, though we also take on small commercial fuseboards for shops and offices. Whether yours is a bay fronted semi, a seafront conversion or a student HMO, the work lands with the same Part P registered team, the same fixed prices and the same one day fit.
A typical house fusebox replacement is a 10 to 16 way board: from £495 for a 10 way dual RCD board, £695 for a full RCBO board in a three bed house, £795 for 14 to 16 ways. A home fusebox upgrade is done in a day, with the power off for four to five hours.
Most flats need a compact 6 to 8 way board: a new fuseboard for a one or two bed flat is from £425 as dual RCD or £625 as full RCBO. Boards in converted buildings often sit in awkward shared spaces, and moving one adds from £250 when we fit a board at the same time.
Landlords and agents use us for shared houses across the county, from student streets in Brighton to HMOs in Crawley and Hastings. For HMOs we recommend RCBO boards with AFDD protection, from £1,095, and we can handle the paperwork trail too: an EICR is from £350 for an HMO, or £99 alongside any board upgrade.
Honest guide prices, published openly. Every figure includes the board, breakers, a Type 2 surge protection device, labour, full testing, your Electrical Installation Certificate and Part P notification. VAT included, no call out fee, no extras invented on the day.
Two RCDs each covering a bank of MCBs. The budget friendly route to full RCD protection for flats and smaller homes.
Dual RCD protection plus dedicated RCBO ways for freezers, alarms and smart home kit, so the circuits that matter never share a trip.
One RCBO per circuit. A fault trips only that circuit, fault finding is faster and nuisance tripping all but disappears. Our recommendation.
RCBOs plus arc fault detection devices for the highest level of fire protection available. The right choice for HMOs and period property.

Guide prices for typical local installations with sound existing wiring. Your fixed quote is confirmed before any work starts, and if we find pre-existing faults during testing we price the remedy separately and never spring it on the invoice. Full detail on the pricing page.
Our Hanover terrace still had a wired fuse box from the seventies. They surveyed on Tuesday, fitted a full RCBO board on Friday and the place was spotless when I got home. Certificate arrived the next morning.
I manage six rental flats around Hove and Kemptown. They cleared C2s from two EICRs, upgraded both boards with AFDDs and had the paperwork with my agent inside 48 hours. Faultless to deal with.
The board kept tripping every time it rained. They found the fault, explained our options without any pressure, and the new consumer unit was in by 2pm the same week. Power was only off for four hours.
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre. No pressure, no hard sell.
Call 0333 360 8691Across Sussex a new consumer unit typically costs between £425 and £795 fitted, depending on the type of board and the number of ways. A dual RCD board for a small flat starts from £425, a full RCBO board for a three bed house is usually £695 to £795, and boards with AFDD protection run from £1,095. Every price includes surge protection, full testing, an Electrical Installation Certificate and notification to Building Control under Part P.
Most fuse box replacements take four to six hours. We arrive in the morning, isolate the supply, fit and terminate the new board, then test every circuit before we energise it. Larger boards, boards with many circuits, or installations that need remedial work can take a full day. You will always know the timescale before we start.
The power is off for most of the installation, usually four to five hours. We plan the day around you: fridges and freezers stay closed and are fine for that period, and we can often restore power to essential circuits over lunch on larger jobs. Everything is back on and fully tested before we leave.
Not automatically. An old fuse box that was compliant when installed can stay in service. It becomes a problem when an EICR grades it C2, commonly because there is no RCD protection for sockets or bathroom circuits, the enclosure is combustible, or the fuses no longer protect modern cable sizes. Landlords must then act on the report within 28 days.
For homeowners it is strongly recommended rather than mandatory, because a modern board protects against electric shock and fire in ways rewireable fuses simply cannot.
An RCD detects electricity leaking to earth and cuts the power fast enough to prevent a fatal shock, but one RCD usually covers several circuits, so one fault can drop half the house. An RCBO combines that protection with a circuit breaker in a single device per circuit, so a fault on the shower never takes out the freezer. An AFDD adds arc fault detection, spotting the signature of a damaged or loose connection arcing behind a wall and switching off before it can start a fire. Our service pages explain each board type, or call us and we will talk it through in plain English.
Yes. Every board we fit is signed off with an Electrical Installation Certificate recording the test results for every circuit, and the work is notified to Building Control under Part P of the Building Regulations. You receive the certificate by email within 48 hours, and mortgage lenders, insurers and future buyers can rely on it.
Very likely. We have been based in Brighton & Hove since 2009 and our installers now work in towns across East and West Sussex, from Chichester and Midhurst to Hastings and Rye, and the villages and hamlets in between. Every town, village and hamlet in the list above has its own page with local details. Booked installation slots are typically 3 to 5 working days out, and emergencies are attended the same day wherever we can.
Yes. Rewireable fuse boxes, plastic consumer units and tired old fuseboards in period conversions: we have replaced more than 2,400 of them since 2009. Whatever is bolted to your wall now, the outcome is the same: a metal 18th Edition board with a Type 2 surge protection device, fully tested, certified and notified under Part P, from £425.
Yes. A house fusebox replacement is typically a 10 to 16 way board and takes four to six hours, while most flats need 6 to 8 ways and are often quicker. Every installer is Part P registered. Homes are the bulk of our work, though we also take on small commercial fuseboards for shops and offices.
In everyday use, nothing: both mean the old board coming off the wall and a modern consumer unit going on. People tend to say change when it is a like for like swap and upgrade when they are stepping up to RCBO or AFDD protection. Either way the new board must meet current regulations, so ours always include a Type 2 surge protection device, full testing, a certificate and Part P notification.
