Sussex coast at the Kent border

Fuse Box Replacement in Jury's Gap

Jury's Gap is a small coastal hamlet in Camber parish, east of Rye and close to where the Sussex shoreline meets Kent. Homes here face open sea and wind, which is hard on electrical equipment. Tired fuse boxes are swapped for new boards at an agreed fixed price, and surge protection is fitted as standard.

Houses facing the sea

Coastal houses, lived in and visited

Jury's Gap has no village centre, just a small spread of houses along the coast, and that brings its own pattern. Whether a place is lived in all year or used for weekends, its board has usually been added to over time, and a house that stands empty for weeks can hide damp or corrosion that nobody notices until something trips.

On the day we look closely at the meter tails, the main earth and any connection showing signs of corrosion, then test every circuit once the new board is in. If the house is empty during the week, we can work with a key holder and email the certificate to you within 48 hours.

  • Corrosion checked at every connection
  • Key holder access arranged
  • Every circuit tested
  • Certificate emailed within 48 hours

Electrics that have to cope with sea air

Salt carried on the wind settles on everything near the shore, including meter boxes, outdoor sockets and anything kept in a garage or porch. Over time it attacks brass terminals and steel enclosures and lets moisture track where it should not. A flat, open coastline also takes the full force of storms, and lightning or a network disturbance can send a surge into the wiring.

A modern metal board in a dry indoor position, with RCD protection on every circuit, copes far better. Type 2 surge protection is included in our price, and it earns its place on an open shoreline. Where an outdoor socket or garage feed has suffered, we tell you plainly and price any repair before starting.

Out past Camber to Jury's Gap

Jury's Gap is among the furthest corners of Sussex from our base, yet there is still no travel charge. We reach it through Rye and on past Camber along the coast. The distance means visits are usually planned a few days ahead, though a call about a dangerous fault will have us looking at what can be done that day.

Jury's Gap questions

Asked in Jury's Gap

Still not sure?

Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.

Call 0333 360 8691

Yes, provided someone can let us in and we can reach the board and meter. We agree the date in advance, finish with a full test of the installation and email the Electrical Installation Certificate within 48 hours. We also notify the job under Part P, so the Building Control paperwork reaches you without you needing to be there.

Less than equipment outside, but it still reaches meter cupboards near doors, porches and garages. Look for white or green deposits on metal parts, rust on an old enclosure or labels that have peeled away. If you can see any of that in your photos, mention it when you text us and we will look closely on the day.

It is included in every board we fit, so you do not have to decide. A Type 2 device limits voltage spikes from lightning or switching on the network before they reach sensitive electronics such as boiler controls, routers and televisions. On an exposed stretch of coast, that protection is well worth having.
