Low ground behind the sea wall

Fuse Box Replacement in Pett Level

Pett Level is the line of homes behind the sea wall where the flat, drained land of the Level meets the shingle beach, between Cliff End and Winchelsea Beach. Swapping an old fuse box for a modern board costs a fixed price here, and we weigh up carefully where each new unit ought to sit.

Living between the beach and the Level

Homes at Pett Level stand in a long line, most with the sea defences in front and open, drained farmland behind. Houses and bungalows have been built here at different times, and many have been altered more than once.

Patchwork boards that have grown up over the years make way for one modern unit, and that unit has its own Type 2 surge device built in. Single storey homes usually let us run new cables through the loft, which also makes raising the board to a safer height a tidy job rather than a disruptive one.

  • Patched up boards replaced
  • Loft routes for new cables
  • Type 2 surge device fitted
  • Whole home tested and certified

Where should the new board go?

The Level is low lying land kept dry by sea defences and drainage, so flood risk is a real consideration. Flood resilience advice is simple on this point: keep electrics high. A consumer unit at skirting height in a hall cupboard is among the first things water reaches, and once it is wet it is no longer safe to touch.

Raising the board while it is being replaced adds £250, and if you already have a modern unit that simply needs moving up, that costs £395 on its own. The meter belongs to your supplier, so if that needs raising too we explain who to contact. If water has ever reached your electrics, say so when you send photos.

Coming out to Pett Level

Our usual way from Brighton & Hove runs east to Hastings and then down to the coast through Pett, although some days we approach instead from Winchelsea, a short drive to the north. Once water has got into the board, leave it alone and phone us; we will do our best to be with you that same day.

No single change does that, but a higher board removes one serious risk. It keeps the main switch within safe reach, makes it less likely the board itself is ruined, and can shorten the wait before power is safely restored after a flood. We agree the height with you before anything is fitted.

Yes, please tell us. Water that reached sockets, back boxes or cables under the floor can leave damage that is not visible. The testing we carry out with every board change is designed to find it, and a full Electrical Installation Condition Report can be added for £99 if you want the whole picture written down.

No. We charge the same across the whole of Sussex, and the journey out to you is never added to the bill. Prices begin at £425 for dual RCD protection and £625 for a board with RCBOs on every circuit. The only extras are ones you choose, such as moving the board higher, which adds £250 when it is done alongside a replacement.
