Fuse Box Replacement in Blackness
Blackness lies east of Polegate, out towards Stone Cross and Pevensey, and belongs to Westham parish. Like many rural properties, homes here can have supply equipment as old as the fuse box. We replace boards for a fixed price and look over everything back to the meter.

Small hamlet, varied properties
Out here, between Polegate and Stone Cross, properties are individual rather than uniform, so no two fuse boxes are alike. Some will have been upgraded in recent years; others may still have a cast iron or wooden fronted fuse box with its original main switch. Plenty sit somewhere in between, which a photo usually reveals.
In every case we start by testing the installation and checking the earthing arrangement, which on rural properties can be a network earth or a rod in the ground. Then we fit the right board for the house: dual RCD from £425, high integrity at £575 for 12 ways, or full RCBO from £625.
- Older fuse boxes replaced
- Earthing type confirmed
- Dual RCD from £425
- Full RCBO from £625

The cut-out, the meter and the tails
Between the cable coming into your home and your consumer unit there are three things: the cut-out with the main fuse, which belongs to UK Power Networks; the meter, which belongs to your supplier; and the meter tails, which are yours. On older rural properties the cut-out can be decades old, and the tails can be undersized or tired.
During a board change we check the tails for size and condition and tell you if they need renewing; an isolator switch can also be added so future work does not mean pulling the main fuse. If the cut-out is cracked, damaged or showing heat marks, we report it to UK Power Networks, as it is theirs to put right.
- Cut-out condition checked
- Meter tails sized and inspected
- Isolator switch option
- Network faults reported to UK Power Networks
No power at Blackness?
From Brighton and Hove we follow the A27 past Polegate and continue east, and the trip costs you nothing extra. Most boards are fitted in 4 to 6 hours. If you lose power, check whether neighbours are off too: a wider cut is a job for UK Power Networks on 105, while a fault in your own board is one for us, and we offer same day help where we can.

Asked in Blackness
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691That is usually the cut-out, holding the main fuse, and it belongs to UK Power Networks. Nobody else should open it. We inspect it during a board change and, if it looks damaged or overheated, we report it so they can attend. You can also call them yourself on 105 if you are worried.
Meter tails are the two thick cables, one brown or red and one blue or black, that run from your meter to your consumer unit. Older tails can be too thin for modern loads or have brittle insulation. We check them with every board change and tell you plainly if they should be renewed.
Postcodes follow Royal Mail delivery routes rather than distances, and Westham parish sits in the BN24 district with Pevensey and Stone Cross. It makes no difference to us: the same fixed prices apply across BN24, BN26 and the rest of Sussex, and there is never a travel charge.
