Plotland roots, decades of extensions
Peacehaven was laid out on a grid of plots sold off from 1916 onwards, and many early homes were modest bungalows put up by their owners. Through the twentieth century the plots filled in, bungalows were extended at the back, lofts became bedrooms and garages became living space. The result is a town made up largely of detached bungalows and chalet bungalows, each with its own building history.
That history often shows up at the fuse box. It is common to find a second board added for an extension, a garage fed from a spur, or loft circuits taken from wherever was handy at the time. Combining everything into one properly sized consumer unit makes the installation easier to understand and safer to use.
- Two old boards merged into one
- Extension and loft circuits checked
- Garage supplies tested
- Chalet bungalows covered
- Clear circuit labelling
- Whole property certificate

Rented bungalows and family homes
Peacehaven's rental market is made up mostly of houses and bungalows rather than large blocks, along with flats above the shops on South Coast Road. Tenants are often families and working households looking for more space than Brighton prices allow, and homes may be let for years with little change to the electrics between tenancies. That makes the five-yearly EICR the main moment when problems come to light.
If an EICR has flagged your fuse box, we can replace it and retest the whole property, adding the EICR for £99 so the paperwork is complete in one visit. Standalone EICRs cost £175 to £350 depending on size, with HMOs from £350. Tenant access is arranged directly with you or your agent.
- Fuse box flagged on an EICR
- Board change and EICR together
- Paperwork done in one visit
- Fixed prices for landlords

When circuits have been added over the years
Because so many Peacehaven homes were built, then extended, by their owners, the wiring can be a patchwork. Before Part P came into force in 2005, a lot of household electrical work was done without any notification, and in a town shaped by self-building that legacy is easy to spot: cables of different ages, junction boxes in lofts and circuits with no clear origin.
Every board change includes testing of the whole installation, and that is where hidden problems surface. If we find a circuit with no earth, a broken ring or a dangerous connection, we stop and explain it before connecting it to the new board. Any repairs are priced separately and only carried out with your agreement.
- Mixed cable ages identified
- Loft junction boxes checked
- Broken rings found by testing
- Unearthed circuits flagged
- Nothing extra without agreement
- Clear report on what we found
Reaching Peacehaven quickly
Peacehaven sits on the A259 just east of Saltdean, one of the closest towns to our Brighton base. If you have lost power to part of the house, can smell burning near the board or have fuses that keep blowing, call us any day between 8am and 8pm. We aim to be with you the same day where possible to make things safe and explain what needs doing.
For a planned replacement, most bungalows are finished in 4 to 6 hours, so the power is usually back on by late afternoon. We tell you when the supply will be off before we start, so you can plan around it.

Fuse box questions from Peacehaven
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre. No pressure, no hard sell.
Call 0333 360 8691In most cases, yes. Second boards usually appear when an extension, loft conversion or garage was added and it was easier to fit another unit than to extend the first. We can bring everything into one consumer unit sized for the number of circuits, as long as testing shows the circuits are sound. An RCBO board at £625 for 8 ways or £695 for 10 to 12 ways suits most of these homes.
It can. Older loft conversions sometimes had sockets and lights taken from existing circuits in the roof space rather than new circuits from the board. That is not automatically dangerous, but it can overload a circuit or leave connections buried under insulation. Our full test picks this up, and we explain any findings before connecting everything to the new board.
If the garage is fed from your house board, its circuit is connected and tested along with everything else. If it has its own small board, we check the cable feeding it and make sure it is properly protected at the house end. Garage supplies can be older than the house wiring, so they are worth having looked at during the visit.
Not necessarily. Plenty of Peacehaven bungalows have been rewired at some point and only need the consumer unit replaced. Where very old wiring survives, testing will show whether it is safe to connect. If it is not, we tell you plainly and give a separate price, rather than fitting a new board to cable that should not be kept.
Yes. The full BN10 area is covered, including Peacehaven Heights at the eastern end, Telscombe Cliffs to the west and the roads running north towards the Downs. It is a short drive from our Brighton base along the A259, which helps when something goes wrong and you need us the same day.
