A two rate supply, whether one meter with two readings or two separate meters, usually feeds the overnight heating through its own switch or small board. We work out which circuits sit on each rate before disconnecting anything, then reconnect them so the storage heaters and immersion still come on when they should.
A board change usually lasts 4 to 6 hours, with the supply switched off for most of it while the old board comes out, the new one goes in and every circuit is tested. We will tell you roughly when to expect it back. If you heat with storage heaters, they will have charged overnight, so the house should hold some warmth while we work.
It is a good idea. Each storage heater normally has its own circuit, but on older off peak boards they often share one RCD, or have none at all. On a full RCBO board every heater circuit gets its own protection, so a failing element trips only that heater. For £695 you can have an RCBO board with 10 to 12 ways.
