Village houses, old and newer
Coldwaltham has grown along and around the A29, so its homes range from older cottages to houses built through the twentieth century and since. The boards follow the same spread. We see fuse boxes that have never been replaced, early consumer units with a single RCD, and plastic units that lack the protection and fire resistant enclosure expected of a board today.
Each home is tested in full on the day. What goes in depends on the circuits we find, with dual RCD units starting at £425, full RCBO boards at £625 and arc fault protection, the highest level available, at £1,095 upwards.
- Single RCD units upgraded
- Non-combustible enclosure
- AFDD option from £1,095
- Every circuit labelled

A board ready for generation and storage
Solar panels and home batteries connect to your installation through the consumer unit, and they change how it works: power can flow in more than one direction, and the board needs clear labels warning that there is a second source of supply. Old fuse boxes were never designed for that, and some newer boards have no spare way to take it.
When we fit your new board we allow a dedicated, labelled way for solar or battery equipment, include Type 2 surge protection as standard and keep the layout easy for the installer to connect to. Panels already on the roof are safely isolated and reconnected while we do the work.
- Dedicated solar way
- Dual supply labels fitted
- Battery space planned
- Existing panels reconnected
Finding Coldwaltham on the A29
Coldwaltham is on the western side of the RH20 area. We usually travel out through Storrington to Pulborough and then turn south on the A29, though the coastal route via Arundel and over Bury Hill works just as well. Either way the journey is free. Booking starts with a quote from your photos, and if the power is off, ask us to come out that day.

Asked in Coldwaltham
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691If your board is old or full, yes. The solar installer needs a suitable way to connect to, and many will not connect to an outdated fuse box. Fitting a new consumer unit first, with a way reserved for the inverter, lets the solar work go ahead without delays or a second board change.
It helps. Long cable runs from the roof and rural overhead supplies can both bring in voltage spikes, which can damage inverters and other electronics. We put Type 2 surge protection in every board we fit, and where you are keeping a newer board without it, a retrofit costs £165.
Only if the system is designed for backup. Many battery systems shut down during a grid outage for safety unless they have a dedicated backup circuit and changeover arrangement. That is a design question for your battery installer, but we lay out the new board so a backup circuit can be added cleanly.
