Inside the walls and beyond them
The city centre, around the Pallants, North Street and the streets near the cathedral, has a high concentration of Georgian and older buildings, many converted to flats or offices above. Outside the walls, Victorian and Edwardian terraces fill Whyke and Somerstown, interwar and postwar housing covers Parklands, Summersdale and East Broyle, and newer developments have been built at Graylingwell, Roussillon Park and on the western edge.
So the job varies street by street. Older city houses often still have old fuse boxes and mixed era wiring. Postwar homes tend to have tired MCB boards with limited RCD cover, while new builds usually have compliant boards that simply need more ways or better protection for new loads.
- Period city centre homes
- Postwar boards in Parklands and Summersdale
- New build boards upgraded
- RCBO and AFDD options
- Full property testing

University houses and city centre flats
The University of Chichester's main campus on College Lane means a steady student rental market, much of it in shared houses in the streets nearby and around the city. Chichester also has a large professional rental market, with people working at the hospital, the university, the council and local employers, and flats in converted city centre buildings are always in demand.
Shared student houses are often HMOs, and their EICRs start from £350. When the board fails inspection, we replace it and can complete the EICR the same visit for £99. We aim to book work outside term changeovers to avoid disrupting tenants.
- Student HMOs near College Lane
- HMO EICRs from £350
- Work planned around term dates
- RCBOs limit tripping in shared houses
- Paperwork sent straight to agents

EV chargers, heat pumps and solar on Chichester's newer homes
Chichester has seen a lot of new housing in recent years, including Graylingwell on the old hospital site, Roussillon Park on the former barracks and the large developments to the west of the city. Many owners are now adding EV chargers, heat pumps, battery storage or solar panels. Each of these puts new demands on the consumer unit, both in spare ways and in the type of RCD protection the manufacturer requires.
If your board is full, has an RCD type that is unsuitable for your charger or inverter, or lacks surge protection, we can advise whether a retrofit or a new board is the better answer. Surge protection alone is £165.
- Spare ways for EV chargers
- Heat pump circuits accommodated
- Battery and solar ready boards
- Correct RCD types for new kit
- Surge retrofit £165
- AFDD boards from £1,095
Chichester board failures, same day where possible
The A27 links our Brighton & Hove base directly with Chichester, so we can usually reach the city and surrounding villages the same day where possible when a board fails. If your consumer unit keeps tripping, has scorch marks or smells hot, switch off at the main switch if it is safe and give us a call.
Our installers find the fault, make it safe and give you a fixed price for any new board, which can usually be fitted on the same visit.

Fuse box questions from Chichester
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre. No pressure, no hard sell.
Call 0333 360 8691You may not. Recent boards are normally compliant. The question is usually capacity: when you add an EV charger, heat pump or battery, there may be no spare way or the wrong type of RCD for that equipment. Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly whether a retrofit or extra way will do.
Yes, if you contact us in good time. Most boards take 4 to 6 hours. We can replace it and complete an HMO EICR together, so you start the year with a satisfactory report. We work around term dates to keep disruption to tenants to a minimum.
In most cases no. A board replacement uses the existing circuits and position. Much of central Chichester is a conservation area with many listed buildings, so if anything visible needs changing we discuss it first so you can check with Chichester District Council where consent may be needed.
Arc fault detection devices are recommended in some situations under the 18th Edition, and they add protection against faults that can lead to fires. They are particularly worth considering in HMOs, timber framed homes and properties with older wiring. A 10 way RCBO and AFDD board is £1,095, and 14 way is £1,295.
Yes. We cover Bosham, Fishbourne, Birdham and the other harbour villages, along with those north towards the Downs. Some rural properties around Chichester have TT earthing on overhead supplies, which we test properly as part of every board change.
