The historic street and the newer roads
Lindfield's character comes from its High Street, where many houses are centuries old and some are timber framed behind later fronts. Much of the village's housing, though, sits on roads built up during the twentieth century, with semis, detached houses and bungalows that have usually had one or two board changes already. The two groups call for quite different conversations about wiring.
In the newer houses, the usual story is a board from the 1980s or 1990s with a single RCD, now short of space for an extension or EV charger. Both problems are normally solved in one visit, either with a 12 way high integrity board at £575 or with a board of individual RCBOs from £625.

Why AFDDs suit timber-framed houses
An arc fault detection device watches for the electrical signature of a damaged cable or loose connection arcing inside a wall or ceiling, and switches the circuit off before it can start a fire. Current wiring regulations recommend them for homes generally, and they make particular sense where the structure itself is timber, as it is in parts of Lindfield's High Street.
Adding AFDDs to an RCBO board brings the price to £1,095 at 10 ways and £1,295 at 14. For a modern Lindfield semi a standard RCBO board is often enough, but for a timber-framed or older property we will talk through the AFDD option so you can make an informed choice.

Asked in Lindfield
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691An arc fault detection device spots dangerous arcing in cables and connections and cuts the power before it overheats anything. In an ordinary house they are recommended rather than compulsory, so the choice is yours. We explain the cost difference and where they make most sense, such as older timber-framed properties, and fit whichever board you decide on.
In most cases, yes. A board change happens at the board itself, and the circuits are reconnected using the existing cables. We put down dust sheets, protect the floor and leave the area tidy. Walls only come into it if the board is moving or a damaged cable needs replacing, and we discuss either with you first.
We email your Electrical Installation Certificate within two days of finishing the work. It records the new board, the test results for every circuit and any observations. The Building Regulations compliance certificate follows separately once the work has been notified under Part P. Keep both with your house documents, as you will need them when you sell.
