Fuse Box Replacement in The Haven
Rudgwick parish takes in The Haven, a small hamlet tucked away in the countryside to the north of Billingshurst. Old fuse boxes in these homes are swapped at a fixed price agreed up front; the new board carries Type 2 surge protection as standard, and every circuit is tested before we pack up.

A handful of homes, each wired its own way
A hamlet like The Haven has no estate of matching houses, so the fuse boxes we find here are rarely alike. An older cottage may still have a wooden backed board with rewireable fuses, while another home has a plastic unit from the 1980s or 1990s, often with extra circuits squeezed on as kitchens were refitted or rooms were built on.
Most of what we need to know shows up in a few pictures: the board itself, the meter, and the supply cable where it enters the house. Those pictures let us fix the price before we come: £425 upwards for dual RCD protection, or £625 upwards for an RCBO on every circuit, so that one fault never again takes out half the house.
- Rewireable fuses removed
- Added circuits brought onto one board
- Each way labelled in plain words
- Fixed price agreed from photos

When your earth comes from a rod in the ground
Many rural homes are fed by overhead lines, and some of those supplies provide no earth from the network at all. Instead, the house has to depend on an earth electrode of its own, a metal rod sunk into the soil, in what is known as a TT system. If that rod has corroded or its clamp has worked loose, protection against electric shock rests on the RCDs alone.
At The Haven, no new board gets connected until we have tested the resistance of the earth rod and looked over the conductor that runs out to it. On a TT supply every circuit needs RCD protection, which our boards give as standard. If the rod reads poorly, we tell you and agree the cost of a new one before carrying on.
- Earth rod resistance measured
- Earthing conductor and clamp checked
- RCD protection on every circuit
- Findings written on the certificate
On the road to The Haven
Reaching The Haven means a drive out into the country from Brighton & Hove. Our usual route is the A23 and then the A272 west through Cowfold to Billingshurst, before heading north into the lanes. Sussex travel is free, so the price is the same as in Hove. A few pictures by text are enough to fix the quote; if the power has gone completely, a phone call gets our best effort to be there that day.

Asked in The Haven
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Look near the meter for a green and yellow cable running out through the wall or down towards the ground, sometimes to a small inspection pit outside. If you are not sure, photograph the meter, the cable coming into the house and the area around them, and text the pictures to us. We can usually tell from those which earthing system you have.
Not to us. The Haven has an RH14 postcode, the same as Billingshurst, while the parish is Rudgwick and the council is Horsham District. The price stays the same either way, since travel is free across Sussex, and Part P notification to Building Control goes through just as it would for any other address.
The whole house. Every circuit is tested when the board is changed, and the results go on your Electrical Installation Certificate, which we email within 48 hours. If testing shows a fault on a circuit, such as poor insulation on an old cable, we explain it and agree any extra work with you before we touch it.
