Fuse Box Replacement in Rye Harbour
Rye Harbour is a village at the mouth of the River Rother, south east of Rye and part of Icklesham parish. Its homes sit on flat, low ground beside the water. An old fuse box in one of those homes can be replaced for a fixed sum, and where it makes sense we will mount its successor higher up.

From older cottages to recent builds
Rye Harbour's older cottages tend to have small rooms, with the board often tucked under the stairs or beside the front door, and newer houses have been added to the village over the years. The older homes are the ones most likely to have rewireable fuses, a mix of cable types and earthing or bonding that falls short of today's standard.
Newer homes usually have a modern board already, but check its age: anything fitted before 2016 is probably plastic and may share one RCD across many circuits. We replace both kinds with a metal board and test the full installation, so you know exactly what you have.
- Under-stair boards replaced neatly
- Main earth and bonding upgraded
- Older plastic units swapped out
- Full test with every board change

Thinking about where the board sits
Like much of the land around the Rother estuary, Rye Harbour is low lying. If water ever came into a ground floor, a fuse box fitted low on a wall would be among the first things affected. A board mounted higher up, or moved to a more protected position, is easier to keep dry and quicker to bring back into service.
Moving the board at the same time as replacing it adds £250 to the fixed price. We plan the new position with you, keep cable runs tidy and test everything afterwards. If the meter itself would need to move, that is arranged with your energy supplier, and we explain the steps involved.
- Board raised or moved for £250
- Cable routes planned with you
- Meter moves explained
- RCD protection on every circuit

Asked in Rye Harbour
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Not automatically. Replacing the board involves testing every circuit, and plenty of older wiring passes. If a circuit fails, we show you the readings and explain whether a repair, a partial rewire or simply keeping an eye on it makes sense. Nothing beyond the agreed price happens without your approval.
Usually, yes. We look at where the meter tails arrive and where the board could sensibly go, then quote the move as part of the replacement, adding £250 to the board price. Some moves are straightforward and some need longer cable runs, and we tell you which before you commit.
Look for a switch marked RCD, or one with a small test button marked T. A board with no RCD at all, or a single RCD protecting everything, leaves you less protected than a modern installation. A photo is enough for us to say what you have and what we would advise.
