Fuse Box Replacement in Adversane

The A29 runs through the small village of Adversane, just south west of Billingshurst. If a new consumer unit is on the cards, it is worth thinking about the electric car you might buy next, because the right board now makes adding a charger later far simpler to arrange.

Roadside homes and houses along the side lanes

Adversane is small, with houses gathered near the A29 and others strung out along the side roads. The mix runs from older cottages to post war and later detached homes and bungalows. Some will have had a newer board fitted along the way; others still rely on a unit put in during a rewire decades ago, now asked to run far more than it was built for.

Age alone does not condemn a board. What we look for is whether every circuit has RCD protection, whether there is room for what you plan next and whether the unit shows any sign of heat. If the answer to those questions is no, no and yes, replacement is usually the sensible step.

A board that is ready for a home charger

A home EV charger is a large load, often 7 kW, drawn for hours at a time. It needs its own circuit and its own protection, and the installer also has to check that your supply can take it. If you are replacing the consumer unit anyway, leaving a spare way and choosing RCBOs makes fitting the charger much easier later.

We fit the board and test the house, but we do not pretend a board alone makes you EV ready. The charger installer will still check the main fuse, the earthing and whether UK Power Networks needs to be told. What we can do is make sure the board is not the thing that holds the job up.

  • Spare way left for a charger
  • RCBO protection throughout
  • Supply details on the certificate
  • Board never the bottleneck
Getting to you

Adversane is easy to reach

Coming from Brighton & Hove, we arrive through Billingshurst or up the A29 from Pulborough, whichever is clearer on the day, and the journey is never added to your bill. Photos of your current board give us enough to fix the price, and if the power is off, a call is better, with a same day visit as the goal.

If you are changing the board anyway, yes, because leaving room costs little. We can size the new consumer unit with a spare way and RCBO protection so a charger circuit can be added later without another board change. Expect to pay £495 for a dual RCD board with 10 ways, while RCBO protection on every circuit starts at £625 with 8 ways.

Partly. A clear photo of the meter, the main fuse and the board tells us a lot, including the likely fuse rating and how the house is earthed. It cannot confirm everything, because the final word on supply capacity can rest with UK Power Networks. We will tell you what we can see and what still needs checking.

Mostly it affects parking. On the A29 we need somewhere safe to leave the van off the carriageway, ideally on a drive. Otherwise a board change in Adversane runs like any other: power off for four to six hours on most jobs, every circuit tested, the new unit labelled and your certificate sent by email inside 48 hours.
