Fuse Box Replacement in Ifield
Ifield was a village with its own medieval church long before Crawley new town grew around it. Today it is a neighbourhood about 2.3 km north west of the town centre, mixing older buildings with post war homes. We replace fuse boxes in both, at the same fixed prices.

Post war streets around an older core
Most homes in Ifield are new town houses, terraces, semis and flats built as the neighbourhood was laid out after the war. Around the old village near St Margaret's Church, the buildings are older and more varied. A board change in a 1950s semi and one in an older cottage call for different care, even though the price is the same.
In the post war houses we usually find a board that has been changed once already and wiring that has been partly updated. In older buildings we pay closer attention to how cables are fixed and routed, and to any old circuits that were abandoned rather than removed.

- Abandoned circuits traced

Working on older buildings without fuss
The old part of Ifield around St Margaret's Church is a designated conservation area. Inside a home, changing a consumer unit does not normally need planning permission, but if the building is listed, work affecting its character, inside or out, may need listed building consent. Keeping the new board in the existing position usually avoids that question altogether.
We fit the new board where the old one was wherever we safely can, reuse existing cable routes and avoid fresh chasing in old plaster. If a move is unavoidable, we discuss it with you first so you can check with the council if needed. Relocation with a new board adds £250.
- Board kept in its existing spot
- Existing cable routes reused
- No new chases in old walls
- Relocation discussed first

Asked in Ifield
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691For most homes, no. Replacing a consumer unit inside the house is not something planning rules usually control. Listed buildings are different, because consent can be needed for changes affecting their character, inside as well as out. If your home is listed, tell us, and we will plan the work so nothing visible changes beyond the board itself.
Often they are circuits abandoned during past rewires or alterations and left in place rather than removed. Some may still be live if they were never disconnected at the board. We trace anything suspicious during the board change, make sure redundant cables are safely disconnected, and note what we found on your certificate.
Usually. Modern metal consumer units are compact, though a larger RCBO board can be wider than an old fuse box. Send a photo with a tape measure held across the space and we will choose a unit that fits, or tell you in advance if a small adjustment to the cupboard is needed.
