When the house has outgrown its board
Like most villages, Halland has a mix of older and later homes, and whatever their age, most have been altered: a kitchen knocked through, a conservatory or extension added, a loft turned into a bedroom. Each project tends to add circuits, and an older board often ends up with cables doubled into single ways or a second unit fixed alongside it.
We count what you really have, including circuits added without labels, and fit a consumer unit with enough ways to give each one its own protection. Induction hobs, electric showers and garden rooms each get a correctly rated device, and the whole installation is tested before we hand over.
- Doubled up circuits separated
- Second boards removed where possible
- Hob and shower circuits rated correctly
- Whole house tested at handover

Getting the order of work right
If you are planning building work in Halland, the timing of the board change matters. Replace it at the start and every new circuit your builder or kitchen fitter needs can connect straight into a protected way on a modern, tested unit. Leave it until the end and the new work may have to be connected to a board that cannot properly support it.
Tell us roughly what the project includes, such as a new kitchen, an extension or an electric shower, and we will suggest a board size with spare capacity. For larger homes the usual fit is a full RCBO board of 14 to 16 ways at £795, while many smaller ones manage well with dual RCD protection across 10 ways, at £495.

- Dual RCD 10 way £495

Asked in Halland
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Before, in most cases. New kitchen circuits, such as an induction hob, oven and extra sockets, need protected ways waiting for them. Doing the board first avoids a temporary arrangement and means the kitchen is connected to a modern, tested unit. If your builder is already on site, we can fit around their programme.
It needs its own circuit, with the cable size and protective device matched to the hob's rating. Many older boards have no spare way, or only a cooker fuse that was never meant for a large electric hob. A new consumer unit gives the hob its own protected circuit, and we check the existing cable is suitable for the load.
Usually very little. The new unit normally goes where the old one was, so there is no cutting into walls unless you ask us to move it. Moving the board as part of a replacement adds £250, and we will explain what that involves, including any making good, before you decide.
