Old cottages and working farmhouses

Housing in a village this size is mostly cottages, farmhouses and a scattering of twentieth century homes, many extended or altered over the years. Extensions often add circuits to a board that was never designed for them, so it is common to find a crowded fuse box with extra switches fixed alongside it. A new board brings all of that together in one place.

We fit a board with enough ways for every existing circuit plus spares, protect each one properly and label it clearly. With 10 ways, a dual RCD board costs £495, while an RCBO board with 10 to 12 ways costs £695, and Type 2 surge protection is fitted to both.

  • Extension circuits brought into one board
  • Spare ways for future work
  • Clear labels on every circuit
  • 10 way dual RCD from £495

Rural supplies and TT earthing

Country homes in this part of Wealden are often fed by overhead lines from UK Power Networks. Plenty of these properties take no earth from the supplier at all and depend on a metal earth rod in the ground instead, known as a TT system. On a TT supply, the RCDs on your board are doing essential work, not just adding a bit of extra safety.

On a TT supply, every board change includes a check of the earth electrode resistance and an inspection of the rod and its clamp, and you hear straight away if the reading needs improving. We also make sure the RCD arrangement suits TT, so a fault anywhere in the house disconnects quickly.

  • Earth rod resistance measured
  • Rod and clamp inspected
  • RCD protection matched to TT
  • Incoming supply looked over first

Berwick from Brighton & Hove

Just off the A27 beyond Lewes and Selmeston, Berwick sits closer to Brighton than most villages on the Polegate side. A single board photo is usually enough for us to fix the price. With the power off and a board that will not reset, phone us and we will get out to you the same day if we possibly can.

A TT earth means your home's earthing comes from a rod in the ground rather than from the supplier's cable. Look near the meter for a green and yellow cable heading outside, sometimes to a small inspection pit. A photo showing where the board and meter sit usually tells us, and we confirm it on the day.

Lightning nearby can push a brief surge along overhead lines, and older RCDs can react to it. Type 2 surge protection comes on all our boards and limits the spikes that reach your circuits and appliances. If you already have a newer board without it, a surge protection retrofit costs £165.

No. We charge nothing for travel anywhere in Sussex, and a board costs the same in Berwick as it does in Brighton. The only things that change the price are the board you choose and any extras you agree to, such as moving it, which adds £250 alongside a new board.
