What sits in the meter cupboard in Isfield
For a small village, Isfield has a broad mix of homes: older cottages, period houses and twentieth century builds, with farmhouses out in the wider parish. The boards we expect reflect that range: some with rewireable fuses, some with an early consumer unit that has no RCD protection, and some plastic units that pre-date the current rule on fire resistant enclosures.
We start by testing the wiring you already have, so you know where you stand before anything changes. Then we install a metal consumer unit that has Type 2 surge protection, give every circuit a clear label and email your Electrical Installation Certificate inside 48 hours. £425 is the starting price for a six way dual RCD board.
- Rewireable fuses retired
- Plastic boards swapped for metal
- Existing wiring tested first
- Certificate emailed in 48 hours

Low ground, outbuildings and where the board should sit
Parts of Isfield parish lie on low ground beside the Ouse and the Uck, and some properties have a garage, stable or workshop set apart from the house. A consumer unit in a detached outbuilding, or fixed low down in a damp utility room, deserves a careful look when the board is changed, because water and electrical equipment do not mix.
If your board is badly placed, we can fit the new one somewhere drier or higher, which adds £250 to the board price. Outbuildings get their own protected circuit, and we test any cable running out to them so you know whether it is fit to stay in service.
- Board moved higher or drier
- Outbuilding feeds protected
- Buried cables tested
- Relocation adds £250
Driving out to Isfield
Isfield falls well within the area we cover. Our Brighton & Hove installers head out through Lewes and up the A26, turning off for the village before Uckfield. A single picture showing the meter beside the fuse box is all we need to put a fixed figure on the job. Left without power by a fault? Phone us, and getting to you that same day is the aim.

Asked in Isfield
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Usually, yes. We run a new supply from the meter to a board inside the house, then feed the garage from it on its own protected circuit. Moving the board adds £250 to the price of the new unit. We look at the cable route first, and if floors need lifting or the run is long, we tell you before quoting.
It is not automatically unsafe, and we will not push you to replace a board that tests well. Since 2016, though, new boards in homes must have a non-combustible enclosure, which in practice means metal. If yours has no RCD protection, shows cracked or scorched parts, or has no room for new circuits, replacing it is worth considering.
Someone needs to let us in and be around at the end so we can show you the new board, but you do not have to watch the work. Most boards take four to six hours. We switch off as late as we can, and fridges and freezers hold their temperature if the doors stay shut.
