Behind the dunes at Camber Sands

Fuse Box Replacement in Camber

Camber is the seaside village behind the dunes of Camber Sands, east of Rye. Between holiday lets, second homes and year-round households, many of its boards work hard for part of the year and sit idle for the rest. Each replacement is priced up front, and surge protection is part of that price.

Single storey homes and seasonal use

Much of Camber's housing is low and modest: bungalows, chalet style homes and beach houses, with some larger modern rebuilds in between. Many have been altered by successive owners, so the fuse box can be older than it looks, or carry later additions for outside lighting, a hot tub or a garden room.

Wind-blown sand gets everywhere near the beach, including meter boxes and garages, and grit plus damp is no friend to old terminals. We fit a metal board in a dry indoor position wherever possible, protect circuits properly and leave a clear schedule so the next owner or manager knows what is what.

Keeping a holiday let safe and bookable

Camber has a great many holiday lets and second homes. The regulations requiring an EICR every five years apply to rental tenancies rather than short holiday stays, but letting agents and insurers often expect a recent inspection, and guests rely on you to get it right. An old board is usually the first thing an inspector flags.

Booking an EICR with your board change costs £99, instead of a standalone inspection at £175 to £350. Where possible the work is slotted around your booking calendar, and on a full RCBO board a faulty appliance trips just its own circuit instead of leaving guests in a dark property.

  • EICR £99 alongside a board
  • Work booked around your calendar
  • RCBOs limit trips to one circuit
  • Certificate ready for your agent

The electrical safety regulations for private rented housing in England cover tenancies, not short holiday stays. Even so, a current EICR is good evidence that you have managed electrical risk, which matters for fire safety, insurance and peace of mind. We suggest treating a holiday let like any other let, and with a board change the EICR costs just £99.

Only with a suitable dedicated circuit and RCD protection, and an older board often has neither. When we replace a board we can allow a protected way for a hot tub, then check that your main fuse and supply can carry the extra load. If the supply looks too small for it, you will hear that from us plainly.

Within 48 hours you have the Electrical Installation Certificate by email, and we notify the work under Part P so Building Control has it on record. The certificate lists every circuit, the protective devices fitted and the test results, so you have a full record without needing to be there on the day.
