Houses extended, boards left behind
Homes around Rock are individual houses rather than estates, and many have been extended or altered over the years. Each change tends to add a circuit or two, sometimes through a small extra board or a spur taken from wherever was handy. The original fuse box is often still in place, now carrying far more than it was built for.
We trace every circuit back, tidy up any add-on boards and bring everything into one properly protected consumer unit where that makes sense. In bigger homes with plenty of circuits, that usually means an RCBO board of 10 to 12 ways at £695, or 14 to 16 ways at £795.
- Add-on boards consolidated
- Every circuit traced
- Spare ways left free
- Clear labels throughout

Planning for loads at the bottom of the garden
A garden office, studio, gym or hot tub is a popular addition on a rural plot, and each one needs a properly designed supply from the house. Hot tubs in particular draw a heavy, long running load and sit in a wet location, so the protection at the consumer unit matters as much as the cable laid out to them.
When we replace your board we check the main fuse rating and work out what spare capacity you have. That tells you whether a new studio or tub will fit comfortably, and we leave suitable ways ready on the board so the next installer has a safe place to connect.
- Main fuse rating checked
- Capacity worked out for you
- Ways reserved for new loads
- Wet location protection
A short run up from the coast
From Brighton & Hove we reach Rock along the A27, then either north on the A24 from Worthing or up the A283 through Steyning, both of which bring us out close to Washington. There is no charge for travel. Most jobs are booked from a photo quote sent by text, and power failures get a same day response whenever possible.

Asked in Rock
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Possibly, but an old fuse box or a board with no spare ways usually cannot do it safely. A hot tub needs its own circuit, RCD protection and enough capacity on the incoming supply. We check all three when we look at your installation, and if a new board is needed we size it with the tub in mind.
Not always. A second board is often left over from an extension or a garage feed. If the circuits can sensibly be combined, one well laid out consumer unit is easier to live with. Where a separate board is still the right answer, such as for a distant outbuilding, we make sure both are properly protected.
It might not. Boards from that period often have dual RCDs and can be perfectly serviceable, although many lack surge protection and sit in plastic enclosures. If yours is sound and simply missing surge protection, a retrofit at £165 may be all you need. We tell you honestly from your photos.
