On an open coast the wind carries salt and damp with it, and both find their way into anything outside: garage boards, outdoor sockets, garden lighting, gate motors and pump supplies. Water in an outdoor fitting is a frequent cause of RCD trips, and on an older board one of those trips can switch off everything in the house.
When we replace the board we test each outdoor circuit, look at the enclosures they run through and give them their own protection where possible, so a soaked garden socket after a winter storm no longer leaves the house dark.
