Village just west of the Arun

Fuse Box Replacement in Climping

Climping is a farming village just west of the River Arun, across the water from Littlehampton, with older cottages and farmhouses alongside later homes. When an old fuse box comes out, we look after the building around it, keep to the agreed price and test every circuit before leaving.

Old cottages, farmhouses and later family homes

Climping, also spelt Clymping, has a medieval parish church at its heart and a great deal of farmland around it, with homes spread along its lanes rather than gathered into one large estate. Older cottages and farmhouses sit alongside twentieth century houses and bungalows, so the electrical installations here range from the very old to the fairly recent.

In older buildings the wiring has often been replaced in stages, so the board may sit on a mix of old and new cables. That makes the full test we do with every board change especially important, as it shows which circuits are sound and which need attention before the new board goes on.

  • Mixed old and new cabling tested
  • Fuse boxes on wooden backboards replaced
  • Bonding to water and gas pipes checked

Fitting a modern board without harming an old building

Climping has listed buildings, beginning with its church, and many more homes here are simply old enough to need a careful approach: solid walls, low ceilings and limited routes for cables. Replacing the consumer unit does not normally mean rewiring, but where new cables are needed for bonding or a relocated board, how they are run really matters.

If your home is listed, check with Arun District Council before any work that alters its fabric. A like for like swap in the same spot is usually straightforward, and we plan any new cable routes to avoid fresh chasing into old walls, using existing routes or neat surface runs where you prefer.

  • Board kept in its existing position where possible
  • No unnecessary chasing into old walls
  • Neat surface trunking where needed

Getting to you

Reaching Climping from our base

From Brighton & Hove, Climping is about 19 miles along the coast, across the river from Littlehampton, and the trip is free. When you send your board photo, let us know whether the house is old or listed, so we can set aside enough time. Emergencies such as a board giving off heat or a burning smell are attended the same day wherever we can.

Still not sure?

Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.

Not necessarily. Plenty of older homes have circuits that test perfectly well and only need a new board. Our full test shows the condition of every cable before the new board is connected. If any circuit fails, we tell you which one, why it matters and what it would cost to fix, so you are not paying for a rewire you do not need.

For a straight replacement in the same position, consent is not usually needed, but the decision rests with the council's conservation officers, not with us. If the board has to move or new cables must pass through historic fabric, ask Arun District Council first. We will describe the proposed work in writing so you have the details to hand.

Our workmanship is guaranteed for six years. Within 48 hours an Electrical Installation Certificate reaches your inbox, and you also get a Building Regulations certificate confirming the work was notified under Part P. Keep both with your house papers, as they are the record of what was installed, when, and by whom.
