Fuse Box Replacement in Rustington

Rustington is a village of bungalows, chalet bungalows and quiet family houses, and a lot of their fuse boxes date from when the house was built or from a single update decades ago. We swap them for modern RCD protected consumer units, usually in one visit, with the price fixed before we arrive.

Bungalows and chalet bungalows, built over several decades

Most of Rustington was built up between the wars and in the decades after 1945, as the old village around The Street expanded towards the sea and up to the A259. The result is street after street of detached bungalows, chalet bungalows and modest houses, many of them in the same hands for a long time. That often means the electrics have been added to bit by bit rather than updated in one go.

Typical finds are a wooden backed fuse board with rewirable fuses, an MCB board from the 1980s with no RCD, or a plastic unit fitted before 2016. Bungalows also tend to have boards in a hall cupboard or a garage, sometimes some distance from where the circuits now need to go.

  • Wooden backed fuse boards replaced
  • 1980s MCB boards upgraded
  • Boards in garages and cupboards
  • Spare ways for future circuits
  • Surge protection fitted as standard
  • Whole property tested and certified

Rented homes in Rustington

Smaller lettings, retirement flats and inherited homes

Rustington is not a big buy to let town, but there is a steady supply of rented flats and bungalows, retirement apartments, and family homes being let after they have been inherited. In each case the landlord needs a satisfactory EICR, and an old fuse box is one of the most common reasons a report comes back unsatisfactory.

If you are preparing a family home for letting or sale, we can replace the board and complete an EICR on the same visit for an extra £99. Executors and families living away from the area can send photos for a quote and arrange key collection with us.

  • Inherited homes made ready to let
  • EICR £99 alongside a new board
  • Key collection can be arranged
  • Retirement flat boards replaced
  • Clear written report for agents
  • Fixed price agreed up front

Bungalows that have grown

Plenty of Rustington bungalows have been extended at the back, had a conservatory added or had the roof space turned into bedrooms. Each change usually meant new circuits, and on an older board those were often squeezed in wherever there was a gap, or two circuits were joined onto a single fuse. Modern kitchens, electric showers and induction hobs add further load.

When we fit the new board we separate doubled up circuits, size each breaker to its cable and label everything clearly. If a further change is planned, such as a heat pump or an EV charger, tell us at quote stage so we can leave the right spare ways.

  • Doubled up circuits separated
  • Loft room circuits on their own breaker
  • Electric showers correctly protected
  • Clear circuit labelling
  • Room for heat pump or EV later
  • 14 to 16 way RCBO from £795
Getting to you

A tripping board in Rustington

Rustington is a short drive west along the A259 from Brighton & Hove, and we aim to reach BN16 homes the same day where possible when a board has failed or keeps tripping. If you notice burning smells, crackling or heat from the fuse box, turn off the main switch if you can do so safely and call us straight away.

We will make the installation safe, find the fault and, where the board itself is the problem, give you a fixed price to replace it, often fitting it on the same visit.

It mainly affects the number of ways you need. A loft room usually adds lighting and socket circuits, and sometimes a shower. If everything fits on a 10 way dual RCD board the price is £495; if you would rather each circuit had its own RCBO, a 10 to 12 way board is £695. We confirm which from your photos before we book.

Yes. We explain the plan before we start, keep the power off for as short a time as possible and restore lighting and the fridge first. Most boards are fitted in 4 to 6 hours. If a family member wants to be present or kept informed by phone, just let us know when booking.

Often it can. Moving the board when we replace it adds £250 to the board price, which covers extending the meter tails and circuits to the new position within reason. We check from photos whether the route is practical and confirm the fixed price before booking.

Yes, Rustington, East Preston and Angmering all sit within Arun District. You do not need to contact the council yourself. As a Part P registered firm we notify the consumer unit change for you, and the compliance certificate follows along with our Electrical Installation Certificate.

Start with an EICR, because a landlord needs a satisfactory report before a tenancy begins. If the original fuse box is still in place it will almost certainly be flagged. Booking a board change with an EICR at £99 extra deals with both together and gives you the paperwork the letting agent will ask for.
