Houses strung along the valley

Farms, cottages and houses spread along the road

Chilgrove is not a village with a centre so much as a line of homes, farms and the odd larger house spread along the valley floor. Properties like these have usually been rewired a room at a time, so a newer consumer unit for a kitchen extension may sit beside an older fuse box that still feeds the bedrooms, with a separate switch somewhere for the garage.

When you text photos we look at every board, switch and meter before quoting. On the day, the old equipment is removed and the circuits are gathered onto one modern board where it is safe to do so; each is then tested, with the results set out on your Electrical Installation Certificate, which reaches your inbox within 48 hours.

  • Older and newer boards combined
  • Every circuit tested and recorded

Why a valley supply benefits from surge protection

Rural homes in the Downs are often fed by overhead lines that cross open fields and pass between trees. Lightning nearby, branches brushing the conductors and the network switching supplies back on after a fault can all send brief voltage spikes into a house, where they can damage boilers, routers, televisions and anything else with electronics inside.

On a new unit, the Type 2 surge device comes as part of the price rather than as an add on. If your board was changed recently and has no surge device, we can retrofit one for £165. It will not survive a direct strike, but it limits the everyday spikes that shorten the life of electronics.

  • Type 2 surge device on every board
  • Surge retrofit for £165
  • Helps protect boilers, routers and TVs
  • Earthing checked as part of testing
Getting to you

Reaching Chilgrove from the coast

Chilgrove is a fair way west of our Brighton base. We come along the A27 to Chichester and then head north on the B2141 up the valley, which is usually the quickest route. A few photos sent by text get you a fixed price, and if the board keeps tripping, ring us any day of the week. We get to urgent faults the same day whenever we can.

Chilgrove questions

Still not sure?

Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.

Call 0333 360 8691

Look at the consumer unit first. If a switch has dropped, the fault is inside your home. If every switch is still up and your neighbours are dark too, it is almost certainly a network fault, so call 105, the free power cut number, to reach UK Power Networks. If only your house is off and nothing has tripped, ring us.

Usually not. Many homes have an isolator switch beside the meter, which lets us turn the supply off safely before the old board comes out. Where there is none, the supply has to be isolated at the main fuse instead, and we explain how that will be handled when we quote, so you know before the day.

No. We never add a mileage charge within Sussex, so a Chilgrove home costs exactly what one in Brighton would. Our prices start at £425 for a dual RCD board and £625 for a full RCBO board, and the fixed price we give from your photos is agreed before any work begins.
