Fuse Box Replacement in Cliff End

Cliff End lies at the foot of the cliffs, where the high ground of Fairlight drops down to Pett Level and the Royal Military Canal reaches its western end. Homes here can trade an old fuse box for a modern consumer unit at a fixed price, and we never bill for the journey.

A small coastal community

Houses that grew in stages

Cliff End is a small place in Pett parish, with homes set along the road where the land falls away towards the Level. Like much of this stretch of coast, many properties have been extended, reroofed or converted over the decades, and the wiring tends to tell that story. It is common to find a board that has been added to more than once rather than replaced.

Our quote starts with you photographing the board and meter, plus any extra switches or fuses near them. That shows us whether we are dealing with one unit or several, and lets us give a fixed price that will not change on the day unless testing finds a hidden fault.

Two boards on a two rate meter

Homes heated by electric storage heaters usually run on a two rate meter, such as Economy 7, and many have two separate units: one for everyday circuits and another, often older, feeding the heaters and immersion on the cheaper night rate. That second unit is easily forgotten, yet it may have no RCD protection at all.

We can replace both, or, where the meter arrangement allows, bring everything into a single board with clearly labelled off peak circuits. The existing heater wiring is checked as part of testing. If you are thinking about swapping storage heaters for another kind of heating, tell us so the new board leaves room.

  • Off peak circuits identified
  • Second unit given RCD protection
  • Two boards combined where possible
  • Spare ways for future heating

Still not sure?

Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.

No. Your tariff is set by your supplier and your meter, not by the consumer unit. We reconnect the off peak circuits so they keep switching exactly as before, then test them along with everything else. If the meter or its time switch looks faulty, we will say so, because that is something your supplier deals with.

It could be an off peak unit for heaters, an old fused switch for an immersion heater, or the feed to a garage or outbuilding. A clear photo usually tells us which. Whatever it is, it belongs in the quote, because leaving an old unprotected switch in place undermines the safety of a brand new board.

We plan the work so that does not happen. A typical change runs to four to six hours, and an early start means the power is back well before dark. If testing turns up a fault that needs more time, we make the installation safe first and agree with you how and when to finish.
