Fuse Box Replacement in Normans Bay

Between Pevensey Bay and Cooden, Normans Bay is a small seaside hamlet just west of Bexhill-on-Sea, with the sea in front and the Pevensey Levels behind. Salt air is hard on electrics, so we pay close attention to where boards and cables sit when we replace a fuse box here.

Homes by the sea

Houses and bungalows strung along the coast

Normans Bay is little more than a line of houses and bungalows along the shore, with its own small station on the railway between Eastbourne and Hastings. Many of the homes are modest in size and built to make the most of the view, so finding room for a larger modern board sometimes needs a little thought.

Coastal homes like these are often modernised in stages, and the board may date from an earlier refit. For many smaller homes a board with two RCDs, priced from £425, does the job well, and the Type 2 surge protector fitted as standard earns its keep on such an exposed stretch of coast.

  • Compact boards for smaller homes
  • Dual RCD from £425
  • Surge protection included

Corrosion is the enemy of coastal electrics

With nothing between the houses and the Channel but shingle, salt carried on the wind finds its way into porches, garages and outbuildings. Over time it corrodes metal enclosures, terminals and outdoor fittings, loosens connections and lets moisture in where it should not be. A board in a damp or draughty spot can deteriorate much faster here than it would inland.

When we replace a board in Normans Bay, we look at where it sits and whether it would be better somewhere drier, and we check outdoor sockets, lights and supplies to sheds or garages for corrosion. If relocation makes sense, it costs £250 extra alongside a new board.

It may well be. Moisture and salt getting into outdoor fittings is a frequent cause of RCD trips near the sea, especially after a storm. We test the circuit, find where the leakage is coming from and recommend better sealed replacements for corroded fittings. A full RCBO board also stops one outdoor fault from tripping the whole house.

Signs include rust on a metal casing, white or green deposits on terminals, a musty smell, scorch marks, or breakers and RCDs that trip for no obvious reason. Do not open the board yourself. A photo of the casing from outside lets us say whether it needs urgent attention.

There is someone on the phones every day, from morning until evening. When a board has failed or the supply will not reset, the aim is a same day visit to Normans Bay, and if that cannot happen, we say so plainly so you can plan around it.
