Fuse Box Replacement in Norton

Norton shares a parish with Selsey, but this small hamlet lies just north of the town, out among the flat fields of the Manhood Peninsula. Country properties on the edge of a seaside town

Norton shares Selsey's postcode and parish but sits where the town gives way to fields, with homes set among open land rather than along suburban streets. Properties in a setting like this tend to be a mix of older cottages, farmhouses and later detached houses or bungalows, each with its own history of alterations.

Rural homes can keep their boards in odd places, such as a porch, utility room or outbuilding, and sometimes run a separate supply to a barn or garage. Photograph everything, including where the cable enters the property and any earth rod you can find, and we will price the whole job at once.

  • Boards in porches and utility rooms
  • Barn and garage supplies checked
  • Photo quotes before we travel
  • Dual RCD boards from £425

TT earthing and what it means for your board

Homes away from the built up part of a town are more likely to have TT earthing, where the earth comes from a rod in the ground rather than from the supply cable. It is a safe arrangement when set up properly, but it leans heavily on RCD protection, because the resistance of the earth path is usually too high for a fuse or breaker to clear a fault quickly on its own.

Any board change on a TT supply includes a resistance reading at the earth electrode, a look at the rod and its clamp, and protection chosen to match. If the rod is damaged, corroded or cannot be found, we explain what is needed and agree the cost with you before the new board is switched on.

  • Earth electrode resistance measured
  • Rod and clamp inspected
  • RCD protection on every circuit
  • Findings recorded on your certificate
Getting to you

Reaching Norton from Brighton & Hove

We reach Norton by the A27 west to Chichester and then the B2145 south towards Selsey. A second trip out here is a long one, so we rely on your photos to bring the right board and parts first time. A sudden power failure is a reason to ring us, and you will get an honest answer about whether we can be there that same day.

Look near the meter for the green and yellow main earth cable. If it connects to the supply cable or the sealed cutout, the earth is probably provided by the network. If it disappears through the wall or floor towards the garden, there is likely a rod outside. A photo of that spot is usually enough for us to say which arrangement you have.

Yes. Norton is covered on exactly the same terms as Selsey itself and the rest of the peninsula: fixed prices, no travel charge and our own directly employed installers, never subcontractors. The price we quote from your photos is the price you pay, provided the photos show the installation as it really is.

Often, yes. A board in a shed or outhouse can be awkward to reach in the dark and is exposed to damp and cold. Moving it indoors as part of a replacement adds £250 to the board price. We check the likely cable route from your photos first, and if the move is not practical we will say so before quoting.
