Twentieth century homes in the Cove
Much of Fairlight's housing is in Fairlight Cove, where bungalows, chalet bungalows and detached houses went up through the twentieth century along quiet residential roads. Older cottages and farmhouses sit further inland, around the church and along the lanes. A home last rewired in the 1960s or 70s often still has its original board, sometimes with a second unit added later for a kitchen or extension.
In a bungalow the loft usually gives us a clean route for new tails and circuits, which keeps disruption low. Where two old units feed different parts of the house, we bring everything onto one modern board. Budget £425 or more for dual RCD, and £625 or more for full RCBO.
- Bungalow loft routes used
- Two old units combined into one
- Original 1960s and 70s boards replaced
- Every circuit tested and labelled

Outdoor electrics on an exposed headland
Fairlight takes the weather straight off the sea. Salt carried on the wind settles on outdoor meter cabinets, garden sockets, outside lights and the glands on cables feeding sheds and garages, and over the years it corrodes terminals and lets moisture in. Faults like that often show up as an RCD that trips in wet or windy weather, then resets once things dry out.
When we change a board we test every outgoing circuit, including the ones that run outside, and point out any fittings that are corroded or no longer weatherproof. Replacing those is quoted separately so the choice is yours. When storms bring lightning along the coast, the Type 2 surge protection built into every board adds another layer of defence.
- Outdoor circuits insulation tested
- Corroded fittings pointed out
- Wet weather tripping traced
- Type 2 surge protection included
Reaching Fairlight from Brighton & Hove
We take the A27 east and then the A259 through Bexhill into Hastings, before heading out past Ore towards the cliffs; Winchelsea lies to the north east. A text with a few pictures of the board is all a fixed price needs. Without power? Pick up the phone and we will make every effort to get there that day.

Asked in Fairlight
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Not on its own. A trip that follows the weather usually means moisture is getting into something outdoors, such as a garden socket, an outside light or the cable to a shed. A new board with individual RCBOs would confine the trip to that one circuit, and our testing should pinpoint the fault itself so it can be repaired.
Yes. Fairlight Cove, the older part of Fairlight around the church, and the lanes and farms in between all fall within the TN35 area we cover. Prices are fixed wherever you are in Sussex and there is never a travel charge, so a house at the end of a private road costs the same as one in Brighton.
A board change normally lasts four to six hours, and you will be without power for most of it. We tell you in advance so you can plan around fridges, freezers and anyone working from home. Before we leave, every circuit is tested, the board is labelled and you are shown how the new devices work.
