Is your board one we would replace?
Older homes in rural Sussex can still have fuse boxes with rewireable fuses: white carriers holding a length of fuse wire. Others have cartridge fuses or an early consumer unit with no RCD. None of these give the protection against electric shock that an RCD provides, and fuse wire can easily be replaced with the wrong rating.
If your board has a row of pull out fuse carriers, a wooden back, or no button marked T or Test, send us a photo. You get an honest answer on whether it needs replacing, and if it does, the dual RCD option costs from £425, including surge protection and testing of the full installation.
- Rewireable fuses replaced
- Cartridge fuse boards upgraded
- RCD protection added
- Honest view from a photo

Surge protection for country homes
Homes fed by overhead lines through open countryside are more exposed to voltage spikes from nearby lightning and from switching on the network. A spike may not trip anything, but it can damage the electronics in boilers, routers and televisions. Type 2 surge protection limits these spikes at the consumer unit, before they travel round the house.
We fit Type 2 surge protection to every new board as standard. If your existing consumer unit is modern and in good order, we can retrofit a surge protection device for £165 instead. It will not prevent power cuts, which are a network matter, but it helps protect what you plug in.
- Type 2 surge protection included
- Retrofit option at £165
- Protects boilers and electronics
- Honest about what it cannot do
Finding Potter's Green
We get to Potter's Green via Lewes and the A26 to Uckfield, then on towards Buxted. Small hamlets can be tricky to find, so add a note on access when you send the board pictures. Urgent faults should be phoned in, and we try hard to be there that same day.

Asked in Potter's Green
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Look for pull out fuse carriers rather than switches, a board mounted on wood, or no RCD with a test button. If you see any of those, it is likely to be an older design. A clear photo is enough for us to confirm what you have and give you a fixed price.
Power cuts caused by damage to overhead lines are a network fault, so UK Power Networks deals with those and a new board cannot prevent them. What a new board does is protect your circuits properly, limit how much of the house a fault inside it switches off, and add surge protection against the spikes storms can bring.
It can be. With a full RCBO board, which costs £625 upwards for 8 ways, a fault on one circuit switches off only that circuit. For a smaller home, a dual RCD board, at £425 upwards, is often perfectly adequate. We explain the difference for your house and let you choose, without pushing the dearer option.
