Fuse Box Replacement in Bexhill-on-Sea
Bexhill was developed as a resort around the turn of the twentieth century, then spread west through Collington, Little Common and Cooden between the wars. That gives the town a distinctive mix of fuse boxes, from tired early boards to cramped units in seafront flats. We replace them all at fixed prices.

Villas by the sea, bungalows inland
The streets around the town centre and the seafront were largely built in the Edwardian period, with substantial villas and terraces, many now divided into flats. Inland and to the west, Collington, Little Common and Cooden filled out between the wars and after, with detached houses and a great many bungalows. Sidley grew as a working village to the north and has its own older terraces.
Homes of these ages have usually been rewired, but the board is often the oldest part of the installation. We frequently find plastic units with no RCD protection, or old boards that have been added to piece by piece. Bungalows often have the board in a hall cupboard, while villas may have it on a half landing or under the stairs.
- Edwardian villas and terraces
- Interwar houses in Collington and Cooden
- Bungalows across Little Common
- Older terraces in Sidley
- Boards older than the wiring they serve
- Piecemeal additions tidied up

Divided villas and purpose built blocks
Bexhill has a large number of flats, both in converted Edwardian villas near the seafront and in purpose built blocks, and many are let or owned by people who have retired to the coast. In converted villas, each flat usually has its own small board, often squeezed into a hallway or a kitchen cupboard, with a separate supply for the communal areas.
We replace individual flat boards and landlord boards, carry out EICRs for £99 alongside the work, and coordinate access with managing agents where needed. HMO EICRs start from £350. If an EICR has already flagged your board, send us the report with a photo and we will price the work needed to bring it back to satisfactory.
- Flats in divided Edwardian villas
- Purpose built seafront blocks
- Communal landlord supplies
- EICR for £99 with any board
- Access arranged with managing agents
- HMO EICRs from £350

Salt air and seafront boards
Homes along Bexhill's seafront take the full force of the weather off the Channel. Salt laden air can corrode exposed metalwork, so external meter boxes, garage boards and outbuilding supplies near the front deserve a closer look. Corrosion at a terminal or on an earth clamp can lead to poor connections, which is why we inspect these parts as part of the full property test.
For garages and outbuildings, we can advise whether a sub board is needed and where it is best placed. The main consumer unit itself is fitted indoors, in a dry position. Properties set back from the front see less of this, but it is still worth having the meter position and earth clamp looked at every time the board is changed.
- External meter boxes inspected
- Earth clamps checked for corrosion
- Garage and outbuilding supplies tested
- Boards fitted in dry positions
- Surge protection included as standard
- Faults on the supply side reported

Fuse box questions from Bexhill-on-Sea
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre. No pressure, no hard sell.
Call 0333 360 8691Usually. Modern consumer units are compact, and a 6 way dual RCD board is from £425 for flats with fewer circuits. If the cupboard is too tight to work in safely, or the board sits over a sink or cooker, we can move it nearby as part of the job for an extra £250. We will look at your photo and say which applies.
Not necessarily. Many interwar homes have been rewired since they were built, and the wiring may be perfectly sound. We test every circuit before fitting the new board. If any wiring is too old or damaged to connect safely, we explain exactly what we found and price the remedial work separately, so you can decide.
It can affect anything metal that is exposed to it, such as external meter cabinets, outdoor sockets, garage supplies and earth clamps. Inside a dry home the effect on the consumer unit is small. That is why our full property test includes checking connections at the meter position and on the main earth, not just at the new board.
Yes. Many Bexhill blocks are run by managing agents, and work on a flat board sometimes needs access to a shared meter room or a landlord supply. Give us the agent's details and we will arrange access and timings. The certificate for your flat is emailed to you within 48 hours.
Bexhill-on-Sea is in Rother District. As we are Part P registered, we notify the work to Building Control ourselves and you receive a compliance certificate by post. You do not need to apply or pay a separate fee. Keep it with your Electrical Installation Certificate, which is emailed within 48 hours, as both are often asked for when a home is sold.
