An older village with new neighbours
Ford's existing homes are a mix of older village properties, twentieth century houses and bungalows, and more recent builds, set among fields, the railway and land that was once an airfield. Arun's planning has identified Ford for significant new housing, so the village is likely to see many more modern homes alongside the existing ones in the years ahead.
For older homes the job is familiar: retire an outdated fuse box or a board without RCDs, test the circuits and fit a metal unit with surge protection. For newer homes the question is usually different, namely whether the existing board can cope with what the owners now want to add.
- Older boards replaced outright
- Newer boards assessed honestly
- Surge protection on every board
- Certificate emailed within 48 hours

When a newer board meets an EV charger, solar and a battery
Homes built in the last decade or so often have a perfectly decent board, but it was designed for the house as built. Add an EV charger, solar panels and a battery and you may run out of spare ways, need different protection for the new circuits, or want arc fault detection that was not fitted originally.
We look at what is there before recommending anything. Sometimes the answer is a surge protection retrofit for £165 and nothing more. If the board really is too small, moving up to 14 to 16 ways of RCBOs at £795, or £1,295 for 14 ways with arc fault detection, makes room for every new circuit.
- Spare ways for an EV charger
- Solar and battery circuits planned
- AFDD upgrade available
- No replacement where none is needed
How we get to Ford
We reach Ford from Brighton & Hove, about 19 miles away, either on the A27 towards Arundel or along the coast through Littlehampton, and the journey is never added to your bill. One picture of your board normally lets us fix the price. A board that is hot or crackling, or no power at all, warrants a call, and our aim is to be with you that day.

Asked in Ford
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Not always. The charger needs its own circuit with suitable protection, and some installers fit a small separate unit for it. If your existing board is old, full or lacks RCD protection, replacing it first is usually the cleaner answer. Once we have seen the board and the meter in photos, we can say which route makes more sense.
Yes. BN18 takes in Ford as well as Arundel and the villages around them, and we cover all of it with no travel charge, as we do everywhere in Sussex. Our installers are our own employees, never subcontractors, so the person who arrives is the person who carries out the work.
Type 2 surge protection comes on all our boards as standard, limiting voltage spikes caused by switching on the network, lightning striking nearby and large equipment on the supply. It does not replace the protection built into solar equipment, but it adds a sensible layer for the electronics around the house. On an existing modern board without it, a retrofit costs £165.
