Older buildings and bigger installations

Little Horsted is mostly farmland, with a church, a scattering of houses and some larger country properties. Bigger houses tend to have more circuits than a standard board can hold: separate kitchens and utility rooms, outbuildings, garden lighting, pumps and gates. Over time that often leads to a main board plus a collection of smaller boxes.

We can bring them together on one properly sized consumer unit. A full RCBO board of 14 to 16 ways starts from £795, giving each circuit its own protection, so a fault on the garden lighting does not switch off the kitchen. Where a second board is the better answer, we explain why.

  • 14 to 16 way RCBO from £795
  • Scattered sub-boards rationalised
  • One fault, one circuit off
  • Outbuildings and gates on their own ways

Working carefully in older and listed homes

Some of the older houses in and around Little Horsted are listed or have period features worth protecting. Replacing a consumer unit in the same place does not usually need listed building consent on its own, but new cable routes through historic walls or floors may, so check with Wealden District Council if you are unsure.

We keep the board change as close to like for like as possible, reuse existing cable routes and avoid cutting into old plaster wherever another route exists. Dust sheets go down first, and we leave the space around the board as we found it.

  • Existing cable routes reused
  • No chasing old plaster without asking
  • Dust sheets as standard
  • Consent questions flagged early

Not necessarily. We look at what each one supplies and how it is fed. Sometimes everything fits neatly on one larger RCBO board, and sometimes a main board plus one sub-board for an outbuilding is the right layout. We explain the options and the price of each, then you decide.

It can be a sensible addition. Arc fault detection devices spot the small sparking faults that come from damaged or loose cables, which ordinary breakers do not see. In older homes with wiring hidden in timber, that extra layer is reassuring. With AFDDs fitted, a 10 way RCBO board costs from £1,095, and a 14 way one from £1,295.

Yes. We lay dust sheets from the door to the board, move only what we need to and put it back, and clear up before we leave. If the board sits in a room with delicate finishes, tell us when you book and we will plan the work around them.
