How a rural supply changes the earthing
Away from town streets, many homes are fed by overhead lines on poles, and on supplies like that the earth often comes from a rod set in the ground rather than from the network cable. That arrangement, known as TT earthing, is perfectly safe when tested and protected properly, but it relies on RCD protection throughout.
