No two Muddles Green houses wired alike
In a settlement of this size there is no standard house. Older cottages sit alongside later homes and conversions, and each has been wired, rewired or extended at different times. The board you have may be the original, a replacement fitted decades ago, or a newer unit that went in when a kitchen or extension was added.
Before quoting we ask for pictures of the meter, the board itself and, if it is visible, the main earth cable. That shows us the age of the installation and the type of supply, so the fixed price you receive already allows for what we are likely to find.
- Photos of board, meter and earth
- Fixed quote before we book
- Board sized to your circuits
- Room left for future additions

Earth rods, TT supplies and what they mean
In rural areas many homes are not given an earth connection by the network. Instead the installation is TT earthed, and its earth comes from a metal rod sunk into the ground close to the house. That arrangement is perfectly safe when it is right, but it depends on RCD protection doing its job, and rods can corrode, work loose or be disturbed by later building work.
Changing a board on a TT supply always includes a reading of the earth electrode's resistance and a check of the main earthing conductor and bonding. If the rod reads poorly we tell you and advise on a replacement. Every circuit on the new board is protected by an RCD or RCBO, as a TT system requires.
- Earth electrode resistance measured
- Main earth and bonding checked
- RCD protection on every circuit
- Clear advice if the rod is poor

Asked in Muddles Green
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Look near the meter for the main earth cable, usually green and yellow. If it runs down into the floor or out through a wall, rather than clamping onto the incoming supply cable, an earth rod is likely. A photo of that area is usually enough for us to tell, and we confirm it with tests on the day.
With an earth rod, the resistance of the fault path back to the network is too high for a fuse or ordinary breaker to clear an earth fault quickly. An RCD senses the small leakage current and switches off in a fraction of a second, giving the protection a fuse cannot. That is why every circuit on our TT boards is RCD or RCBO protected.
Not at all. When you book, tell us anything that helps: the name on the gate, a landmark on the lane, or where we can park the van. Rural addresses are often tricky to pin down from a postcode alone, so if we are close but unsure of the right drive, we will ring you rather than guess.
