Castle village on the Levels' edge

Fuse Box Replacement in Pevensey

Pevensey is known for its Roman and Norman castle, yet what matters for a fuse box is the house around it: an old High Street cottage, a bungalow, or a family home looking out towards the Levels. We fit modern consumer units for a fixed price and test every circuit.

Pevensey's houses

Cottages, bungalows and what hides in the hall cupboard

Housing in Pevensey runs from old cottages near the castle to the bungalows and post-war houses on the surrounding roads. Bungalows of that age were wired decades ago, and while many boards have been swapped since, it is still common to come across rewirable fuses, cartridge fuse boards and early units with no RCD protection at all.

A board without RCDs leaves sockets, lights and any outdoor circuits unprotected against earth leakage, the fault most likely to give someone a shock. Dual RCD protection, from £425, puts that right, and moving up to full RCBO, from £625, adds separate protection for each circuit.

  • Rewirable and cartridge fuses replaced
  • RCD protection on every circuit
  • Outdoor circuits brought under RCD
  • Dual RCD from £425, RCBO from £625

Thinking about water before choosing a spot

Pevensey looks out over the Pevensey Levels, a broad stretch of low lying grazing marsh crossed by drainage ditches. Low ground like this carries some flood risk, whether from heavy rain or from the sea. If your home has ever had water near the floor, or sits on the lower side of the village, it is worth thinking about where the board lives.

Most boards stay where they are, and that is usually right. Where a board is low in a cupboard or a garage and you would rather it was out of harm's way, we can raise it when fitting the new one for £250 extra. You can check your own address on the Environment Agency flood maps first.

Often it is a circuit rather than the board: an outdoor socket, garden lighting or a cable to a shed letting water in, which an RCD rightly cuts off. We trace which circuit trips and why. If the board itself is old or its RCD is faulty, replacing it fixes that, but we will tell you if the real problem lies elsewhere.

Wooden backed boards with rewirable fuses date from several decades ago and give no RCD protection. They are not automatically dangerous, but they fall well short of current standards and wear with age. A standalone EICR from £175 will tell you how yours stands, or we can replace it outright from £425 with the whole house tested.

Yes. We cover the whole of Sussex with no travel charge, and that includes Pevensey Bay and the homes near the beach as well as the village by the castle. Properties closer to the sea face salt air, so there we also look at outdoor fittings and any meter box exposed to the weather.
