Fuse Box Replacement in Maidenbower

Maidenbower lies on the eastern side of Crawley, about 2.4 km from the town centre and right beside the M23. One of the town's later neighbourhoods, it was built from the late 1980s, and many homes could still have the board fitted when they were new. We upgrade them at fixed prices.

Split load boards

Thirty year old boards and their gaps

Maidenbower is largely privately built family housing, from terraces to detached houses. Boards from the years it was built were typically split load: a single RCD covers the sockets, while the lighting, cooker and immersion heater have no RCD protection at all. When anything on the RCD side trips, every socket in the house goes off with it.

Full RCBO protection, from £625 or £695 for 10 to 12 ways, protects each circuit in isolation, so a faulty kettle no longer takes out the freezer or the home office. For a lower outlay, a dual RCD board at £425 and up still covers every circuit.

  • Lighting finally RCD protected
  • Single RCD trips ended
  • 10 to 12 way RCBO £695
  • Every circuit covered

Loft rooms, garden offices and bigger kitchens

Family houses from the late 1980s and 1990s are the right age for a loft conversion, a kitchen extension or a cabin at the end of the garden, and each project adds circuits to a board sized for the original house. The usual result is a full board, a second unit in the garage, or new loads squeezed onto an old circuit.

We bring those circuits together on one properly sized board, label every way, and leave spare capacity for what comes next. A garden office fed from the house gets its own protected supply, and the whole installation, old and new, is tested and certified together.

Getting to you

On the M23 side of Crawley

Maidenbower sits beside the M23 on the east of Crawley, which makes it one of the easier places for us to reach. Most upgrades are planned a few days ahead, around school runs and working days. Because part of the house has no RCD protection at all. On a split load board the lights, cooker and often the immersion heater sit outside the RCD, relying on fuses or breakers alone, which do not give the same protection against electric shock. A modern board covers every circuit and adds Type 2 surge protection.

Usually. If a previous owner added a small unit for a garage, extension or garden room, we can often bring those circuits onto the new main board, provided the cables reach and test well. Outbuildings further from the house may need their own small board, and we will explain which applies before you agree the price.

It is not required for an existing home like this, but it is a sensible upgrade. Arc fault devices detect the sparking from damaged cables or loose connections that can start a fire before an ordinary breaker would react. Adding arc fault detection to an RCBO board brings the price to £1,095 with 10 ways, or £1,295 with 14.
