What we do in Felpham

Fuse box upgrades for Felpham homes

Pick the board that suits your home and your plans. Holiday let owners and families often choose full RCBO protection so one fault does not leave the house dark, and thatched cottages may suit arc fault detection. Surge protection comes with every board.

An old village wrapped in seaside bungalows

Felpham's old centre around the parish church is small, with flint cottages, flint garden walls and the thatched cottage where William Blake lived from 1800 to 1803. Through the twentieth century the village grew in every direction, with bungalows and chalet bungalows towards the beach, family houses and estates inland, and blocks of flats near the shore. Today it runs almost seamlessly into Bognor Regis on one side and Middleton-on-Sea on the other.

Most Felpham homes date from the middle and later twentieth century, and their boards follow a familiar pattern: an original fuse box replaced once, often decades ago, with a single RCD or a split load arrangement. Chalet bungalows sometimes hide the board under the stairs to the upper rooms. Flats near the seafront usually have a compact board fed from a meter cupboard in the common parts.

Letting in Felpham

Holiday homes near the beach, family lets inland

Felpham's rental market splits two ways. Close to the beach and the promenade, cottages, bungalows and flats are let to holidaymakers, often booked through the summer and at weekends. Inland, family houses are let to households drawn by the schools and by easy reach of Bognor Regis and Chichester. Long lets need a satisfactory EICR at least every five years, and holiday lets must be kept electrically safe for every guest.

For holiday lets, we book the board change on a changeover day or a gap in your calendar, and the property is tested, certified and back to normal before the next guests arrive. For long lets, we work with you or your agent, tell tenants in advance and keep the outage to one day. An EICR alongside any board change is £99.

  • Holiday lets near the promenade
  • Family houses let inland
  • Work fitted around changeovers
  • Tenants told in advance
  • EICR £99 with any board
  • Certificates for your records

Flint walls and thatch

Old Felpham's cottages and their electrics

The older buildings in Felpham need a different approach from the bungalows around them. Flint walls are thick and irregular and can draw up damp near the base, which makes fixing a board flat and running cables neatly harder than on plaster over brick. A thatched roof adds a fire risk that deserves extra thought, because a fire that reaches the thatch spreads quickly and is hard to put out.

We check the wall for damp before choosing where the board goes, mount it on a backing board so it sits square and clear of the masonry, and run any new cables in slim surface trunking rather than cutting into flint. Where a thatched roof is involved, we explain the case for arc fault protection. If the existing position is unsuitable, moving the board with a new one adds £250.

  • Damp checked before fixing
  • Boards mounted clear of flint
  • Neat surface cable runs
  • Arc fault protection discussed
  • Relocation with new board £250
  • Old cottage wiring fully tested

It deserves serious thought. AFDDs watch for the electrical arcing that comes from a damaged cable or a loose connection, faults that can start a fire without tripping an ordinary breaker or RCD. In a thatched home, where a fire in the roof space can take hold fast, many owners choose this extra layer. Our RCBO and AFDD boards cost £1,095 for 10 ways and £1,295 for 14 ways, including surge protection and a full test.

Send us the report and a photo of the board. We will price the replacement and book the earliest date that suits you and your tenants. Landlords have 28 days to complete remedial work, or less if the report says so, and must then confirm in writing to the tenant and the local council. Our Electrical Installation Certificate covers that, and we can carry out a fresh EICR for £99 at the same visit.

Yes. The solar inverter circuit is isolated and disconnected safely, then reconnected to its own way on the new board with suitable protection and a clear label. We check the isolators at the inverter while we are there. If you also have a battery, tell us the make when you send your photo, so we can plan the right isolation and leave the system working as the installer intended.

Yes. We cover Felpham and every village around it, from Middleton-on-Sea and Elmer along the shore to Flansham, Yapton, Barnham and the Aldingbourne villages inland. Prices are the same fixed rates everywhere, with no travel supplement. Send a photo of your board with your postcode, and we will reply with a price and the next available dates.

Usually it can, as long as the cupboard is dry, the board is easy to reach and nothing is stored in front of it. Under stairs cupboards in chalet bungalows can be cramped, so we check there is room for a modern board with enough ways. If you would rather have it somewhere more convenient, moving it alongside a new board adds £250, or £395 as a job on its own.
