A small parish on the peninsula

Fuse Box Replacement in Earnley

Just inland of Bracklesham and north west of Selsey, the small village of Earnley has a parish all to itself. When we put a modern consumer unit in place of an old fuse box, the layout can be planned around a heat pump or electric heating if that is your next step.

Village lanes and farmland

Older cottages and farm homes in a quiet parish

Earnley is quieter and more rural than its seaside neighbours, with homes strung along lanes among the fields rather than grouped on estates. You find older cottages and farmhouses alongside later houses and bungalows, often on generous plots. In houses with a long history, the wiring can be a patchwork from several decades, and the board is where it all comes together.

A board change is the moment that patchwork gets properly examined. We test every circuit, old and new, and the results go on your certificate. Where older cable is still sound it stays in use; where it is not, we show you the readings and explain the options before suggesting any further work.

  • Mixed era wiring tested
  • Sound cable kept in use
  • Readings shown, not just reported
  • Dual RCD boards from £425

Getting the board ready for a heat pump

Rural homes on the peninsula are not all on mains gas, and those without it have long relied on oil, LPG or storage heaters. If your Earnley home is one of them and you are considering an air source heat pump, the consumer unit needs a properly rated way for it, suitable protection, and enough capacity for everything else in the house.

Mention any heating plans when you send photos. We can fit a board with spare ways now, check the main fuse rating and earthing, and leave the installation ready for your heating engineer. If the incoming supply is too small, we explain how to request an upgrade from UK Power Networks.

  • Heat pump ready layouts
  • Main fuse rating checked
  • Storage heater circuits tidied
  • Room left for heating circuits
Getting to you

Travelling to Earnley

To get here we take the A27 to Chichester, head south down the peninsula and follow the lanes into the village. Everything is priced from your photos before we come, so a single visit is usually enough. A dead or scorched board warrants a call, and while we aim to come that same day, you will get an honest answer about timing.

Not always, but often. If your board is old, full or without RCD protection, most heat pump installers will want that resolved first. A new board with a dedicated way for the heat pump saves fitting a separate unit for it later. Send us the heat pump's rating from the quote or data sheet and we will plan around it.

They keep working. Homes with off peak heating often have a second board or a split arrangement for the timed supply. We carry that arrangement across to the new installation, test the heater circuits and label the off peak side clearly. If you later replace the heaters with a heat pump, the board can be adapted rather than replaced again.

Arc fault detection devices look for the arcing caused by damaged cables, loose connections or worn flexes, which an ordinary breaker or RCD will not detect. They are worth considering in older houses, particularly those with timber in the structure or wiring that has been extended many times. A 10 way RCBO board with AFDDs is £1,095, and 14 way is £1,295.
