Old brick terraces and brand new streets

Burgess Hill grew from the railway and from its brick and tile works, and the Victorian terraces near the station and the town centre date from that time. Through the twentieth century the town spread out with estates in areas such as Sheddingdean, Leylands and World's End. Today it is growing again, with large new neighbourhoods on its northern and western edges.

So a single street map holds boards of every age, from old fuse carriers in terraced houses to tidy RCBO boards in new builds. The older estate homes are where we most often find boards that are full, plastic and short of RCD protection. Every board change includes a full property test.

  • Victorian railway era terraces
  • 1960s to 1990s estate houses
  • Sheddingdean and Leylands homes
  • Brand new build developments
  • Full boards with no spare ways
  • Every circuit tested and certified

Family rentals and new build investments

Burgess Hill has two railway stations on the line between London and Brighton, which makes it popular with renters who commute. Much of the rental stock is family housing on established estates, along with flats in the town centre and buy to let homes on the newer developments. The older estate homes are the ones most likely to have a board flagged on an EICR.

We can replace a board between tenancies or with tenants in place, retest the whole property and email you the certificate within 48 hours. On the newer developments, landlords sometimes ask us to add surge protection or upgrade to RCBOs before letting. On older estate homes it is more often a full board change after an EICR, and we quote both from a photo before any work is booked.

  • Boards changed between tenancies
  • Tenants given clear notice
  • EICR £99 with a board change
  • Standalone EICR £175 to £350
  • Fixed prices for agents
  • Certificate emailed within 48 hours

Boards ready for low carbon upgrades

Burgess Hill has a lot of homeowners adding car chargers, air source heat pumps, solar panels and home batteries. Each of these needs its own properly protected circuit, and many older boards simply have nowhere to put them. Some installers will fit a separate small enclosure next to the old board, but that can leave the rest of the house without modern protection.

Replacing the board first gives every new system a proper home. We fit a board with spare ways, RCBO protection and surge protection, ready for your next installer to connect to. Each circuit is labelled clearly, so whoever fits the charger, heat pump or battery can see straight away where it connects and how it is protected.

  • Spare ways for EV and heat pump circuits
  • Ready for solar and battery connections
  • RCBO protection on each circuit
  • Type 2 surge protection included
  • Clear schedule for future installers
  • Building Control notified under Part P

Often you do. A heat pump needs its own dedicated, correctly protected circuit, and many older boards have no spare way for it. Your heat pump installer may raise this during their survey. We can fit a new board with spare ways ready for the heat pump circuit and any other upgrades you are planning, then your installer connects into it.

In many cases yes, as long as it is accessible and protected from damage and damp. Some owners take the opportunity to move it into the house. Relocating the board at the same time as replacing it adds £250, and we will check that the new position is sensible for the meter and the existing circuits.

For most new builds, no. The board will already meet current standards. Some owners choose to upgrade to a full RCBO board so a single fault does not trip several circuits, or to add arc fault protection. If you just want surge protection added to an existing compliant board, our surge retrofit is £165.

That depends on the board. Solar and battery systems need a suitably protected connection, and older boards with no spare ways or no RCD protection are often not suitable. Send us a photo of your board and tell us which system you are planning. We will tell you whether it can stay or whether a new board would make the installation simpler and safer.

Yes. We cover Hassocks, Keymer, Ditchling, Hurstpierpoint and the other villages around Burgess Hill at the same fixed prices. Many of the older houses in these villages have been rewired in stages, so the full property test we carry out with every board change is especially useful there. Just send us a photo.
