Lancing's housing
A town built largely in the twentieth century
North Lancing keeps its village core of flint cottages and older houses near the church. Most of the town, though, grew in the twentieth century between the railway, the A27 and the coast, with streets of interwar bungalows and semis, then post-war and 1960s and 70s estates. South Lancing towards the beach has many detached and chalet bungalows, and newer housing is going up at New Monks Farm on the Shoreham side.
Bungalows are straightforward to work on, but their boards are often original or replaced only once, frequently without RCD protection. Not necessarily, but loft conversions are often wired by extending existing circuits, which can overload them. Before fitting the new board we test each circuit and check how the upstairs rooms are fed. If the loft needs its own circuit to be safe, we explain why and price that separately.
Yes, although brand new homes should already have a modern consumer unit and rarely need a replacement. Owners there more often ask about adding surge protection if it was not fitted, for £165, or extra circuits for garden rooms and chargers. Send us a photo and we will tell you what is worth doing.
