Fuse Box Replacement in Vines Cross
A short way from Horam itself, and a couple of miles south of Heathfield, the small village of Vines Cross belongs to Horam parish. Rural homes out here are often fed by overhead lines, so when we change a fuse box we pay as much attention to the earthing as to the new board.

Fuse boxes we expect in Vines Cross
Most homes in this small village are individual houses, older cottages mixed in among others built through the last century. That variety shows up at the meter: an old metal-clad fuse box in one house, a 1990s board with a single RCD in the next, and sometimes an extra unit added later for a garage or outbuilding.
Whatever we find, the price is fixed before we start. Dual RCD boards begin at £425 and full RCBO boards at £625, each fitted with a Type 2 surge device, and because the existing wiring is tested you learn the condition of every circuit.
- Metal-clad fuse boxes replaced
- Older single RCD boards upgraded
- Outbuilding supplies checked
- Fixed price agreed first

Why the earth rod matters as much as the board
Plenty of rural supplies come without an earth connection from the network, leaving the property to rely on an earth rod of its own sunk into the soil. This arrangement, known as TT, relies on RCDs to clear an earth fault, because the rod cannot carry enough current to blow a fuse quickly. An old board without RCDs on a TT supply is a real concern.
Each board change includes a resistance test on the earth electrode and a check of the main earthing and bonding conductors. If the rod reads too high or has corroded, we tell you and explain what is needed before going further, and the readings go on your certificate for future reference.
- Earth rod resistance measured
- Earthing conductor checked
- Bonding to pipework checked
- Readings on the certificate
Reaching Vines Cross from the coast
From Brighton & Hove we head east past Lewes and on into the Wealden lanes, and the journey adds nothing to your bill. Horam and Heathfield are both close by, which keeps the journey simple. Planned board changes are booked for a date of your choosing; if your power has gone, we take calls seven days a week and aim to be with you the same day.

Asked in Vines Cross
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Look near the meter for the thick green and yellow earth cable. If it connects to the supply company's cable where it enters the house, the network provides the earth. If it disappears through the wall or floor towards a rod outside, the home is probably TT. Send us a photo and we can usually tell you, then confirm it with tests on the day.
It comes from the same range, but how it is set up matters. Every circuit must be protected by an RCD or RCBO, and on TT systems a time-delayed RCD is sometimes used at the front of the board, with the surge protection connected to suit. We decide the arrangement once we have measured your earth rod.
Normally not. A board change happens at the board position: the old unit comes off, the new one goes on, and the existing circuits are reconnected and tested. Plaster only needs disturbing if a cable is too short or damaged, and we would talk that through with you first. Most jobs take four to six hours.
