Village houses, farmhouses and later builds

Chailey's housing reflects a parish that has grown in separate pockets rather than around one centre. There are older village houses and farmhouses, twentieth century homes in small groups, and properties standing alone along the lanes. The boards follow the same pattern: no two are alike, and many have been extended or partly replaced over the decades.

Farmhouse or later build, we work towards one result: a single metal consumer unit that gives every circuit RCD protection, guards against surges with a Type 2 device and leaves room for whatever you add next. On price, ten ways with dual RCDs comes to £495, and boards with an RCBO on every circuit start at £625.

  • Every circuit RCD protected
  • Metal enclosure as standard
  • Spare ways planned in
  • Whole property inspected

Building work that outgrows the old board

Homeowners who extend rather than move often hit the same snag: a new kitchen at the back, a loft room or a garden studio each needs a protected way, and the electrician on the building job finds there is no room, or that the existing board does not meet current rules for adding to it. That is often when a board change becomes urgent.

If you are planning building work, change the board early. We fit a unit sized for the finished house, so the new circuits can be connected without a second disruption, and the board change gets its own Part P notification. Tell us your plans when you send photos.

Chailey questions

Asked in Chailey

Still not sure?

Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.

Call 0333 360 8691

Yes. North Chailey, South Chailey, Chailey Common and the homes along the lanes in between are all covered at the same fixed prices, and there is never a travel charge anywhere in Sussex. Include your postcode when you text photos so we can plan the visit.

A second small board beside the old one is possible, but it leaves you with two sets of protection and an older unit still in service. Replacing it with a larger board, from £495 for 10 ways with dual RCDs, gives the new circuits a proper home and brings the whole house up to date in one go.

We can plan for it. Solar and battery systems connect through their own protective devices, and many installers like a dedicated way on the main board. Tell us what you are considering and we will lay out the new unit to suit, with surge protection already included in the price.
