Cottages, post war homes and newer houses
Because Buxted has grown in stages, its houses come from several different decades, and their boards differ too. Older cottages may still have fuses or an early consumer unit, while post war and later homes often have a split load board, where only some circuits sit behind an RCD and the rest have no residual current protection at all.
However old the house, the replacement unit puts every circuit behind an RCD, carries Type 2 surge protection of its own and is followed by testing of the whole installation. If you would like each circuit protected on its own, a full RCBO board starts from £625 for 8 ways.
- Split load boards upgraded
- RCD cover on every circuit
- Surge protection as standard
- Full RCBO option from £625

A board that works with your solar
Homes across Wealden are adding solar panels and, increasingly, a home battery. Each brings another source of supply onto the consumer unit, and an older board may lack a suitable way for the inverter, the right type of RCD or room for the isolation the installer needs. It is a common reason for replacing a board.
If you already have panels, we safely isolate the inverter before we start, reconnect it to its own protected way on the new board and test it. If panels or a battery are planned, we leave space so the installer can connect without the board being changed again.
- Inverter isolated and reconnected
- Own way for the solar circuit
- Space left for a battery
- Tested before we leave
Buxted bookings and urgent calls
We come up through Lewes and the A26 to Uckfield, then out to the village, a short drive beyond the town. We fix the price from a few shots showing the board and meter, and you then pick the day. If a fault has cut your power, ring us: getting to you that same day is the aim.

Asked in Buxted
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Yes, if we plan for it. Tell us when you book and we will choose a board with spare ways and room for the protection a battery system needs. When the battery installer arrives, they connect to a ready way rather than working around an old unit, which keeps their job simpler and avoids a second board change.
It was common practice when many houses were wired, but it leaves lighting and some fixed appliances without RCD protection, which current regulations expect. It is not automatically dangerous, but it is a good reason to upgrade. Upgrading to a dual RCD board, priced from £425, brings every circuit under RCD cover, and the full test reveals what state the wiring is in.
In nearly all cases, yes. Most boards are fitted in 4 to 6 hours including testing, so if we start in the morning, your lights, heating and fridge are normally back on by late afternoon. If testing finds a fault on one circuit, we leave that circuit off safely and explain what is needed.
