Fuse Box Replacement in Forge Wood
Forge Wood is Crawley's newest neighbourhood, built from the mid 2010s on the north east side of the town, 4.1 km from the centre. Homes this young rarely need a full board replacement. What they can lack is surge protection, room for an EV charger, or a fresh report once the builder's certificate ages.

A new build board that probably does not need replacing
Forge Wood's houses and flats were wired to the standards of their day, with modern consumer units and RCD protection from the start. We will not recommend replacing a sound, recent board just because you asked us to look at it. For most homes here, the honest answer is that the board is fine and any work needed is an addition rather than a swap.
Homes wired before 2019 came under the 17th Edition, which did not generally require surge protection on an underground supply. If your board has no surge device, we can retrofit Type 2 protection for £165. Homes wired later, under the 18th Edition, will usually have one already.

Chargers, batteries and a board with room
Developer boards are usually sized for the house as built, with few spare ways. That becomes a problem when you want an EV charger, a home battery, solar panels or a garden office. One answer is a small extra unit beside the main board; another is a larger board that keeps everything together and is simpler to live with.
We will tell you which suits your Forge Wood home. Where an upgrade is worthwhile, a full RCBO board starts at £625, and an RCBO and AFDD board from £1,095 adds arc fault detection. If your existing board can take the new circuit as it is, we say so.

Visiting Forge Wood
Tucked between Pound Hill and the airport, Forge Wood is close to the M23, which carries us nearly all the way from Brighton & Hove. Travel costs nothing extra. Open the front flap before photographing your board, so the devices can be read when you send it. Anything that trips and refuses to reset is worth a phone call, and we will come that day if we can.

Asked in Forge Wood
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691We can, but read your warranty terms first. Some new build warranties may not cover parts of the installation that others have altered, and defects should go to the developer while that cover lasts. For additions such as surge protection, we certify everything we do, so the paperwork stays clear either way.
Open the flap on the consumer unit and look for a device marked SPD, often with a small window that shows green while it is healthy. It usually sits near the main switch. Cannot spot one? From a photo of the open board we can say whether a £165 retrofit is worthwhile.
Not necessarily. Government guidance allows the original Electrical Installation Certificate to count while it is under five years old. Once it passes that age, a landlord must have an EICR carried out every five years or sooner. Where the certificate is older than that or has gone missing, a standalone EICR is £175 to £350, with larger properties at the top of that range.
