Broadbridge homes

Ordinary homes, often much altered

Broadbridge's homes are generally later and more varied than the old cottages near Bosham's quay, with detached houses, bungalows and semis among them. Plenty have been extended, had lofts converted or kitchens moved over the years, and each change usually added circuits to whatever board was already there. The result can be a crowded board, extra fused spurs, or a second small unit tucked away feeding the extension.

Bringing everything onto one properly sized board makes the installation easier to understand and safer to use. We test every circuit as part of the change, including the ones added by previous owners, and record each result on your certificate.

  • Extension circuits brought together
  • Second boards removed where possible
  • Every circuit tested
  • One clear certificate

Fitting the board around building work

When a house is being renovated, the consumer unit is best treated as part of the project rather than an afterthought. If a new kitchen, extension or loft room is going in, the existing board may not take the extra circuits, and whoever adds them has to confirm it is suitable. Replacing it at the right stage avoids paying for the same work twice.

Tell us your builder's timetable and we will fit the board when it causes the least disruption, often once the new cables have been run. We can also carry out an EICR for £99 at the same visit, so you know the condition of the circuits you are keeping.

  • Timed around your builder
  • Room for new circuits
  • EICR £99 alongside
  • No paying twice

Usually once the new circuits have been run, so everything can be connected and tested together. If the old board is unsafe, it can make sense to replace it first and leave spare ways ready for the extension. Share your plans with us and we will suggest the order that avoids extra visits and keeps you with power for as long as possible.

Often, yes. If the replacement main board is sized with enough ways, the extension circuits can be brought back onto it and the second unit removed. Where the extension is some distance from the main board, keeping a sub board fed from the new one can still be the neater answer. We look at both and recommend whichever suits the house.

In most cases, yes. Clear pictures sent by text are enough, showing the board with its cover on, the circuit labels, the meter and the main earth cable, and the price we give back is fixed. If something in the pictures needs a closer look, we will tell you before you commit to anything.
