Older centre, later family housing

Turners Hill keeps older houses and cottages around its centre, while much of the housing beyond it dates from the twentieth century: family homes of the kind that get extended as families grow. Boards range from original fuse boxes in little changed cottages to 1980s and 1990s split load units that have had extra circuits squeezed in over the years.

We size the new board for the house you have now and the one you might have later. For most family homes, 12 ways on a high integrity board leaves plenty of room at £575, and larger, extended properties are better suited to RCBOs on 14 to 16 ways, which cost £795.

Building upwards? Sort the board first

A loft conversion or rear extension adds lighting, sockets, perhaps an en suite shower and, under Building Regulations, mains powered interlinked smoke alarms. All of that has to connect somewhere. If the existing board has no spare ways or lacks RCD protection, the electrician on the project will usually need it replaced before the new work can be signed off.

Changing the board before the builders arrive keeps things simple. We fit a unit with room for the new circuits, test the existing house so you know its condition, and hand over a certificate that the project electrician and Building Control can rely on.

Getting to you

Turners Hill from Brighton or Crawley

We reach the village from Brighton & Hove up the A23 and then the B2028, passing through Lindfield and Ardingly. For some jobs on the Crawley side the M23 is quicker, and we take whichever route suits the day. Send a few photos by text to book. Nothing is charged for the trip, and a home without power gets a same day callout if we can fit one in.

Not always, but often. If your board has spare ways, RCD protection and is in good order, new circuits can be added to it. Many older boards fall short on one of those points, and new circuits cannot then be connected to current standards. A photo lets us tell you which applies before your builder starts.

Send photos and we will price it straight away. A typical board is fitted in 4 to 6 hours. Within 48 hours you then have the Electrical Installation Certificate in your email, which is usually what a buyer's solicitor asks to see. If you would rather give buyers a full picture, an EICR costs £99 alongside the board.

We do. As a Part P registered business we notify the work to Building Control on your behalf, so there is nothing for you to apply for, and a completion certificate is then issued for the property. If the board is part of a loft or extension project, tell us so the paperwork lines up with your builder's.
