Older terraces near the shops, newer streets beyond
Sidley's housing grew in stages. Nearer the old village centre there are terraced houses from around the turn of the twentieth century, while the roads further out filled with interwar and postwar homes, council built houses and bungalows. In the older terraces the board is often under the stairs or high above the front door, sometimes some distance from the meter.
Swapping the board in a terrace is usually straightforward, but the wiring behind it can hold surprises, such as rubber insulated cable or a lighting circuit with no earth. Because we test every circuit before handing over, those problems come to light while we are there and can be priced on the spot.
- Under stairs and over door boards replaced
- Meter tails renewed where needed
- Old lighting circuits checked for earths
- Flats and maisonettes covered

Rented homes and the five year report
Landlords letting a house or flat in Sidley must, under the law in England, have the electrics inspected no less often than every five years, pass a copy of the report to the tenant and fix any C1 or C2 items within 28 days. One of the commonest reasons for an unsatisfactory report is a dated fuse box lacking RCD protection.
When we replace a board we can carry out the EICR at the same visit for £99, so you end up with a new installation certificate and a fresh condition report together. Give us your tenant's details and we can arrange access with them, then email both documents to you.
- EICR alongside a new board for £99
- Standalone EICR from £175
- Access arranged with your tenant
- Both documents emailed to you
From Brighton to Sidley along the coast
Sidley sits just north of Bexhill town centre. We drive east on the A27 and A259, then up through the town. Any quote we give from your board photos is fixed. A breaker that refuses to reset, or a board that feels warm or looks scorched, needs a phone call, and we can often be there the same day.

Asked in Sidley
Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.
Call 0333 360 8691Usually, yes. Most flats keep the board in the same place, and we renew the meter tails if they are undersized or damaged. Where the cable from the meter up to your flat is a long run, we check that it is suitably protected at the meter end. If a better position makes sense, relocation with a new board adds £250.
Yes. A standalone EICR for an HMO starts from £350, reflecting the extra circuits, shared areas and often more than one board. For ordinary houses and flats it costs between £175 and £350, depending on size. If the board is being replaced anyway, adding the EICR to that visit costs £99, which is usually the most economical route for a landlord.
It can be. A loose connection at a fuse holder, the main switch or the meter tails can cause flicker and heat, and that is worth checking soon. The cause may also sit on the network side. If anything looks scorched or smells hot, switch off at the main switch and ring us; otherwise, texting us a picture of the board is a good first step.
