Older Danehill houses and the boards they still use

Danehill is spread along its main road and the lanes off it, so homes range from older brick and tile hung houses to twentieth century family homes and bungalows. Many have been extended, and the extension is often where the trouble starts: new circuits squeezed onto a board never designed for them, or a second small box fixed beside the first.

We replace the lot with a single board sized for how you live now. £495 buys ten ways protected by two RCDs, while an RCBO for every circuit, from £625, suits larger homes where one tripping circuit should not take the kitchen or the heating down with it.

  • Two boards combined into one
  • Extension circuits properly protected
  • Room left for future circuits
  • Heating controls on their own way

Trees, storms and surges

Why surge protection earns its place among the trees

Danehill is a wooded corner of the Weald, and in country like this overhead lines often run close to trees. When branches come down in a storm, the supply can drop out and return, and lightning nearby can send a brief spike along the line. Modern electronics, from boiler controls to broadband routers, are vulnerable to exactly that.

Each board we install has its own Type 2 surge unit, at no extra cost. If your current board is fairly new but lacks one, a surge retrofit costs £165, provided there is space and the board is otherwise in good order.

  • Type 2 surge device as standard
  • Boiler and router electronics protected
  • Retrofit £165 where a board qualifies
  • Status window visible on the device

Across the county line to Danehill

Danehill is in East Sussex, north east of Haywards Heath. Rather than going through Haywards Heath, we usually take the A27 to Lewes and then the A275 north, which runs right through the village. Crossing into East Sussex adds nothing to your bill. For a fixed price, text us photos of the board; for a power failure, phone, and we will come the same day if we possibly can.

Not to us. We cover the whole of Sussex at the same fixed prices with no travel charge. The only difference is administrative: the Part P notification goes to Building Control for Wealden rather than Mid Sussex, and we deal with that for you. Either way, the certificate arrives by email no later than 48 hours after we finish.

It may well have. Fitted at the board, Type 2 surge protection limits the brief voltage spikes that lightning or switching on the network can push through your wiring. It cannot stop a direct strike on the house, but it greatly reduces the risk to everyday electronics. It is included with every board we fit.

We agree a start time when you book, and morning starts are common. The heating, like everything else, is off while we disconnect and fit the board, but most changes are finished within four to six hours and the power comes back on as soon as testing allows. In winter, expect a few cooler hours rather than a cold evening.
