Homes set well apart

Ebernoe is a dispersed hamlet rather than a village with a street of shops. Its homes are cottages, farmhouses and the occasional later house dotted along lanes and at the edges of the woodland, so each has its own electrical story: a board from one decade, a kitchen rewired in another, a workshop added later. Rural properties like these are often fed by overhead lines.

Because no two houses are alike, we price from photos of your own board and meter rather than a set figure for the area. Boards with dual RCD protection begin at £425, and each replacement brings Type 2 surge protection with it, along with a test of the whole installation.

Power cut or board fault?

Knowing who to call when the lights go out

In wooded country, storms and falling branches can bring down overhead lines, and when that happens the fault is on the network, not inside your house. If your neighbours are also without power, or nothing on your board has tripped, call UK Power Networks on 105, the free national number for power cuts.

If only your home is affected and a switch on the board has tripped and will not reset, the fault is inside the property, and that is where we come in. Ring us and, while a visit is being arranged, we will talk you through isolating the faulty circuit over the phone.

  • Neighbours off too: call 105
  • Tripped switch: call us
  • Phone help to isolate faults
  • Same day visits where possible

Still not sure?

Call for a straight answer from an installer, not a call centre.

Call 0333 360 8691

Probably not. If every switch on the board is still on, the supply itself has most likely failed. Check whether neighbours are affected and call 105 to report it. Never remove the sealed main fuse near the meter: it belongs to UK Power Networks. If the network confirms your supply is fine, call us and we will investigate.

It helps. Restoring a rural line after a fault, and lightning nearby, can both send brief voltage spikes into a house. Much of that energy is sent to earth, before it gets into your circuits, by the Type 2 surge protector that comes on each board we fit. It cannot stop everything, so very sensitive equipment may still benefit from plug-in protection too.

Only through a proper changeover switch, which makes it impossible for the generator to feed back into the network while engineers may be working on the lines. If you already have one, we reconnect and test it with the new board. If the generator is plugged into a socket with an adapter lead, please stop doing that and ask us for advice.
